Nova Williams laid in her bed, her fear of sleep was the only thing keeping her awake. Every time she dreams, it's as vivid as walking around your neighborhood. And every single dream was the same.
Nova stared at her ceiling as she gathered courage to sleep. They were only dreams after all. The brunette closed her eyes, and within seconds, was transported into the realm of dreams.
Nova opened her eyes and instead of seeing the familiarity of her bedroom, saw the metallic inside of a ship. She, of course, was piloting the ship, along side with someone else.
He, like every other time she had this dream, was very handsome. He had dark grey eyes and shaggy hair that cascaded past his ears. His five o'clock shadow gave his chiseled features a more mature look. Nova could only guess what was hidden under the shirt of his jumpsuit.
Nova, like every time she looked at him, felt a tug in her chest. It was obvious that the dream version of her had feelings towards the man(even though in some dreams, they were a little touchy touchy feely towards each other.)
The man looked at Nova as if he sensed that she was studying him. He gave a smile that made her heart flutter. She smiled back at him. Suddenly the ship shook violently, and the heart melting smile was replaced with a look of shear terror.
Red lights flashed spasticly as a monotone voice repeated, "Cargo hull has been breached. Left wing has been damaged. Immediate maintenance required."
Dread set into Nova as she realized that there is no others on her ship that knew how to fix it, and the ship takes two people to drive. They were either going to crash or dock onto another ship. Docking onto another ship was their best chance of survival.
The guy flipped a switch on the dashboard and put on a headset. He moved the mic to his mouth and began to speak.
"Lead has been hit, requesting docking on two. Over."
Nova wasn't paying attention to where she was driving the ship, she was to engrossed in watching him take control of the situation. The way he took action was beautiful to Nova. Or, well, he was beautiful to the brunette. In the years of dreaming of him, Nova fell in love with him. The way he treated her dream self made her desperately wish he was real.
The light on his face changed into a fiery red, way different from the golden yellow it had been only seconds before.
Nova turned in time to see an asteroid the size of a small boulder hurdle towards the ship. before she had any time to react, it hit the ship, causing extreme pain to go through Nova just before she blacked out.
The brunette woke up screaming. Marcus, Nova's father, rushed into the room, immediately going to her as she screamed. She shook in her father's arms as she sobbed.
After what seemed like an eternity, Nova calmed down. She looked around and noticed Clarise her mother, in her robe leaning against the door frame. The concern written across both her parents faces made Nova quickly pull herself together. The brunette hastily wiped the tears from her eyes and pulled away from Marcus, letting out a shaky sigh.
"What happened this time Novie?" Clarise asked her daughter as she ventured farther into the dark room, sitting on the edge of the occupied bed.
"It was the same as usual momma. We were in the ship and the asteroid hit, but this time I could actually feel the pain from the metal cutting me. That's never happened before."
Marcus and Clarise shared a look. They didn't want to, but they wanted their daughter to be able to sleep through the night. The only place in Hillsdale that was able to provide the mental care she needed was Seaside Hospital, a half hour away.
Nova's parents hated the idea of setting their daughter up with a shrink, but they saw no other option. These dreams were getting worse and she needed the help that Seaside would give her.
"Baby, maybe its time to see Dr. Hartman. She can help you where we cant." Clarise said as she rubbed her daughters leg.
"I don't want to see some shrink mom! I'm fine. They're only dreams, I'll get over them sooner or later." Nova tried to reason.
"Baby, you've said it yourself. These dreams of yours are getting worse. You need to see the doctor."
"But-" The brunette was cut off by her father.
"No buts Novalee," Marcus scolded. "This decision is final. You are going whether you like it or not. Now get some sleep before school tomorrow."
