Author's Note:
Hello hello everyone. I've decided to start this book off on a mellow note. The Wardrobe is a funny happening in my life recently.
I apologize for it being in Third Person POV. Not really my style, so it'll probably not be very good.
This story was written in 2013.
Enjoy.
......................................................And now she lay.
In the familiar darkness of her room, the frequent pitter patter of her fingers against the keys of her laptop was a comforting sound. She had just finished the last book in her series and she felt a sense of accomplishment, mixed with the inevitable pang of sadness that always accompanied the end of a journey through pages.
She figured it was nearing the time for her to conclude her day. It was well into the night and school was soon to re-open. She needed to fall into the habit of rising at 7:00am. She had meant to conclude her article when she was shocked by a strong vibration at her hip, accompanied by a muted buzzing sound. The tight feeling in her chest dissipated as she realized it was merely a video call. She frowned. Who could be calling at this ungodly hour? Though she knew the answer.
She wasn't surprised to read the caller ID. She smiled, despite herself, and took a deep breath before answering softly, "Jesus Christ, you scared me half to death!"
Her lights were off, so she could see his face, but he could not see hers.
The boy at the other end of the call chuckled at her nearly inaudible words. "I'm sorry, babe, but it's urgent." This got her attention. "What is it? Is something wrong?"
Her boyfriend smiled faintly at her immediate change of tone. "Everything is fine my love," then he considered the thought, "well mostly everything."
He went on to explain the situation regarding his business and how he was dealing with a matter that could potentially cost them thousands in revenue. She listened to him rant and ramble in silence. The darkness that engulfed her was the best setting for her to think, albeit the hour. She was mostly mute, muttering the occasional grunt of acceptance and "You're right," whenever it was appropriate.
"So now, the PS has this issue-"
"Wait," she cut him off, "I just heard something..." she stared at the dim translucent curtains that covered her windows, the effects of constantly peering into the computer screen light resulted in the mass of fabric being hardly recognizable. She was one hundred percent sure she heard a noise. It was faint, but it was definitely there. Then she heard it again, louder this time, it sounded like scratching.
"You're alright," the boy cooed, "it was just the cat baby. No need to get worked up."
"...I guess you're ri-" she was cut off by the same scratching sound, louder still, and that galvanized her into action. "No babe, now I'm scared."
"Turn on the light and see for yourself then."
She cautiously removed her hand from the safe Haven of her warm, fuzzy blanket. Nimble fingers ran across the wall in search of the light switch. She found it, flicked it on and impulsively her eyes went to the closet, detecting movement. Then, without warning, the wardrobe door swung open on its hinges and revealed the hideous face of a monster!
The poor girl recoiled instinctively in fright and let out a loud, piercing shriek of absolute terror that rang through the entire house. The longer she stared at the creature, and as her eyes adjusted to the light, the more discernable its features became. She made out hands, one holding the door open and the other clutching the creature's bright blue transformers T-shirt at its abdomen as it laughed uncontrollably. This is when she realized she had been pranked.
Her terror was soon replaced by incandescent rage. Still gasping for breath, she glared at her brother. Her nostrils flared with irascibility, her eyes wide and wild.
Quinn knew which tree to climb with his sister. He made his departure swift and with a flourish, knocking over her empty Snapple bottle and a book in the process.

Author's Note:And that, folks, is why I check my wardrobe every night before bed. So no, I'm not repeating my actions constantly in hopes that one day I find Narnia 😂😂
