Luna always thought her life would flash before her eyes in the moments before her death. Instead she just felt a mild sense of dread.
The edges of the ravine rose on both sides of her. Luna felt the pokemon slipping out of her grasp as it wailed a sharp, painful cry. From atop a rocky outcropping the girl with jade eyes and tow-colored hair stared down at her, mouth open. The sun formed a halo of light behind the shouting girl's head.
She was so pretty.
Don't look so scared, Luna wanted to say.
A kiss of water graced her skin.
A blunt jolt jerked her head forward as the rapids rushed over her. Warmth and red. Everything became color and light. Great forces propelled her limp body. She was spinning but she couldn't figure out why.
There it was now, her life beginning to flash.
It was all noise and pain.
Fury and confusion.
She began to fade away.

Lillie stared at the rocks below, the rapids pulsing over them in strong, regular bursts. Nebby was gone. The girl was gone. The Spearow, frightened by Nebby's outburst, had long since fled into the cover of the trees.
Her arms trembled, barely able to support her weight. Below her she saw nothing. Downstream she saw nothing. The water rushed around a bend further away. There were no bodies, just the flowing river.
She stood. How high up was she? Forty feet? Sixty? What if they hit a rock? Lillie backed away from the ravine. She had to find help. She had to get the Kahuna.
Feet pounding beneath her, she rushed back towards town. The pathway was soon deemed irrelevant as she found herself crashing through bushes and bounding over boulders. Brushing aside some fronds of a plant she couldn't care enough to recognize, the ground opened up beneath her. She let out a surprised yelp as she stumbled.
Her feet slipped when they made contact with the wet grass of the hill, and down she went. End over end over end she rolled, her arms held in front of her head. Weeds whipped at her face, the dew of the grass sticking dirt and grass to her bare arms.
Soon the chaos stopped and she lifted herself, shaking. Lillie walked forward slowly, but her knees gave way at the foot of the small hill. Her hat was gone – when she lost it she couldn't say. Her arms were covered in scratches and bruises.
She stared at the entrance of Iki Town and began to cry.
It wasn't long before the professor found her. Feet pounding in the dust of the road, he sprinted over. One arm went around her shoulders and his calm voice was in her ear. She clung to him as if on instinct, her grip leaving long creases in his coat.
"...happened?" Lillie looked up at him, catching only the end of his question. She couldn't respond. He asked again, "What happened?"
The first impulse was to cry again, but then she saw the girl's face as she slipped beneath the water. Confusion. Uncertainty. Shock. Lillie began to say everything at once, the words tumbling from her mouth messy and contorted.
