Chapter 1: The Transfer Student

Watery shafts of light sliced their way through the clouds, casting long shadows across the sidewalk. The sky was a creamy color. The cream gave way to yellow as the sun pushed its way through the shadows, driving away the night and turning the sky a soft pink. The cold and crisp autumn breeze rang in Miku’s ear and rushed through her hair as she made a desperate dash to school. Idiot she thought her herself, I’m letting Len down again! Miku was late for class, once again. Miku’s school, Crypton Future High, loomed ahead of her. Its tall gray brick walls stretched up to the sky and were covered with windows inside and out. It was truly a beautiful school. Faint chirping of birds echoed in the distant trees, and the rush of footsteps could be heard from Miku herself. Everything seemed to be peaceful on such a crisp autumn morning that held an eerie feeling of disaster to come. A small black figure with spiked hair stood at the end of the long gravel path that lead to the high school. Len! Though being tired from running to school, Miku quickened her pace. “Len! I’m coming!” Miku called through gasps for air. Len quickly turned his head at the sound of his name. Facing Miku, his eyes sparkled with amusement but they hid a sudden flash of worry but it quickly left his gaze.

“Hey,” he mumbled, trying to sound enthusiastic. He let his cerulean gaze fall upon Miku; piercing her like a needle- something was wrong. Flicking strands of blonde hair out of his face he straightened up and opened his arms to embrace Miku, who was now in full view- standing in front of him.

“I-” she huffed “I made it!” The curves of Len’s mouth tilted into a small smile.

“I thought you never would.” Len replied, turning his head and glancing away from Miku. He’s so cute…no…he’s adorable! Len’s hair was golden blonde in color that he would always have tied up in a small ponytail, he had piercing cerulean eyes, and he would always wear the same outfit. A plain white serafuku shirt with a black collar, black shorts, a yellow tie, white shoes with a yellow rim, black legwarmers and detached black sleeves that most of the Vocaloid’s wore. Suddenly a sharp pain ran through Miku’s side, and for a mere second everything went black but quickly returned to the normal colorful world. Looking around to see what happened, Miku realized she was on the ground, with the teen body of Rin squeezing her body.

“MIKU!” she exclaimed, “You will never guess what happened today!” At that moment, right when Rin exclaimed to Miku what had been boiled up inside her, Miku saw a flash of eerie sadness flash through Len as he jumped back in surprise. I’ll talk to him. Regaining focus on Rin she slightly pushed on her shoulders, signaling for Rin to get off her.

“Wha-” she started but her voice was completely drowned my Rin’s excited voice.

“Make a guess! You’ll never guess!” Miku thought for a moment.

“Did you and Kaito get together?” She said at last, knowing that was what wasn’t going on. Hot embarrassment flooded through Rin, turning her cheeks bright red. She huffed and shot a hot glance at Len, who just turned away and whistled silently to himself.

“No…” she sighed, letting her excitement leave her body for a minute. But it quickly came back and her face lit up with massive amounts of excitement. “We…” she continued, saying her sentence in slow parts which made Miku fill with more tension and curiosity. It felt like ages before Rin continued her news. “We have another student in our class!” The excitement flooded out of Rin and into Miku, making her stomach lighten and her eyes sparkle with anticipation.

“Wow! I want to meet-” there was a long pause, not knowing if it was a boy or girl Miku couldn’t complete her sentence. She looked at Len who simply mouthed out the word ‘girl’.

“-Her!” Miku finished. Suddenly the school bell rang. Rin grabbed tightly onto Miku’s wrists and stood up, with Miku following. Rin dug her sharp un-treated nails into Miku’s shoulder blades, making her wince at the pain.
