Mistletoe

"What the hell is this, Sammy?" Dean looked up at the leaves and white berries hanging from the doorway to the kitchen.

Sam laughed as he took a bite of his cereal. He watched his brother with amusement. Dean was glaring up at the mistletoe like it had done something to offend him. "What do you think? It's mistletoe."

"Yeah, but why?" He scowled, walking into the kitchen and starting to dig through the fridge for something to eat.

"I think you know why." Sam smiled to himself. It couldn't be more obvious as to why he had put it up.

The older Winchester furrowed his eyebrows. "No, I don't know why." He couldn't find anything good to eat for breakfast, so he gave up on searching for food. Instead, he turned on the coffee pot to make some coffee. He was usually pretty grumpy until he had his coffee for the day.

Sam let out a small sigh. Maybe it wasn't as obvious as he thought. "Well, you know how you and Cas always have eye sex? I thought I'd do something about it so you two would finally admit to each other how you feel."

Dean turned around, staring at his brother for a minute. He didn't think that his feelings towards the angel had been that obvious. "What the fuck? I don't have feelings for Cas." He denied it. He wasn't sure if he wanted his brother to know just yet.

Sam couldn't help but let out a small snort. "Yeah, I'm sure you don't." He said sarcastically, finishing up his cereal.

For the next week or so, Dean purposely avoided the kitchen like it was the plague. He would only go in there when he knew there was for sure no one else around. It wasn't that he didn't want to kiss Castiel. He really did. But he just didn't know how Cas would react. He didn't want it to ruin their relationship, or make it awkward, or have it become weird.

By the ninth day of him avoiding the kitchen, Dean had somewhat forgotten why he was even doing it in the first place.

He was in the middle of walking out of the kitchen when Cas bumped into him, trying to head into the kitchen.

"Oh, there you are." Castiel said. "I was looking for you. I think I found a lead on the case." He watched Dean nod. "The victims' hearts were—" He started to stay, but interrupted himself. "What is this plant here for?" He asked curiously, glancing up at the mistletoe hanging from the doorway.

"Nothin', Cas. It's just Sammy trying to be funny." He murmured, looking away. He really didn't want to have to explain the tradition.

Castiel furrowed his eyebrows. "What do you mean? How is a plant funny?" His head tilted to the side in curiosity.

The hunter let out a small sigh. He didn't know how Cas would react after the explanation. "Basically... it's a Christmas thing. People hang up mistletoe. If two people are underneath it, then they have to kiss each other." Dean explained, still looking away. He was finding that the floor was very interesting to look at.

It took Cas a minute to catch on. "Dean...... I'm standing underneath it. And so are you." He pointed out.

"If you don't want us to kiss, I get it. It's jus—" Dean was cut off by a pair of lips pressing to his. It took him a few seconds for his brain to get going and process what was happening. But once he realized, he returned the gentle kiss. Dean couldn't believe that they were actually kissing. And wow, Cas had soft lips.

And just like that, it was over. Castiel pulled away from the taller man, a small blush on his cheeks.

Dean stared at him for a moment. Gears were clicking in his head as he slowly began to realize that Cas, of all people, might possibly have feelings for him. "Cas......" He started to say, but felt his throat dry up. Why had it gotten hard for him to speak?

Castiel knew exactly what Dean was trying to ask him. He nodded. "Yes, I do have feelings for you."

"You do?"

The angel nodded again. "Yeah."

For a few fleeting seconds, Dean was shocked. He never thought that the person standing in front of him would reciprocate his feelings. Slowly, a grin appeared on his face. He reached up with a hand, cupping the angel's cheek as he leaned down to press a kiss to his lips.

Cas couldn't help but grin too.

"Hah! I knew it!" Sam shouted, highfiving Gabriel.

"Babe, calm down. We all knew it was gonna happen eventually." Gabe said, but he was just as happy for them.
