Saturday. January 2nd.

Delilah stood in the center of her room, the figure in the mirror she was staring at seemed to look plain. Sighing, she took her book bag and slung it over her shoulder. "Lilah! You're gonna be late again!" Her aunt, always in a rush, yelled out from downstairs. After the slight eye roll and flick of her hair, she made her way downstairs.

Seemingly Delilah didn't have to deal with school today. It was her job she was late to and she definitely wasn't in the mood to get lectured by her brother on why she was late again. The smell of waffles instantly perked her interests, "hmm what's that I smell? Food perhaps?" She asked, coming behind aunty Lacy to see what she was cooking. The slightly older woman shook her head and pushed her playfully towards the door. "No mam, you're late and unless you want boy toy Derek to fire you, I'd suggest you leave." Delilah sighed, "I know, I'm going." she replied, annoyance in her voice because of how right she actually was. With that, she was out the door.

The sound of chicago rain hitting her car windows filled the silence of her drive to the place she absolutely dreaded. Lilah thought herself, a thing she did when she drove to work, about the next month. Her 18th birthday was coming up and her parents wouldn't be there again. It was a sad thought yes, that only two years ago they passed together in a car wreck but Lilah and Alex always made the best of having each other still. She currently lives with him and their father's sister, Lacy. A beautiful lady who took them in when they died. Every time she thought about them she couldn't help but shed a tear.

Staying strong, she sighed and put on some Neck Deep to drown out the silence. "Ah yes, the heavenly voice of Ben Barlow." she smiled and hummed along to "A Part of Me." After a ten minute drive to downtown, she was finally there. She unplugged her phone and grabbed her bag, making her way inside the outstanding colored building. Green lettering with neon pink music notes surrounding the "cactus music" sign. Another high decision her two loser bosses made.

"I'm sorry." Delilah said to her brother who looked royally pissed. Rushing passed the wall of vinyls, she set her bag down on the counter and gave him a sad, puppy dog look. "Jesus christ, Delilah! You can't keep being late!" Alex's voice boomed through the shop. Her childlike instincts kicked in and she winced, pouting like a baby. "It wasn't my fault..?" she said, hopeful he'd forget about it.

Derek walked in, almost instantly regretting it. "Tell her she can't keep being late, Derek." Alex said. "Sorry bro, your sister, your problem." He gave a cheeky smirk, almost chuckling at how ridiculous he was acting. Lilah almost fainted, Derek freaking Discanio just smirked and she was there to see it.

Delilah had to close today since she was late. It was almost 10pm and Derek was the only one there with Lilah, Alex had left earlier. Nervousness ran through her body down to her toes as she walked past him. The last thing she had to do was lock up the cash registers and she was good to go.

"Are you closing today?" A voice behind her spooked her and she turned from where she was. "Uh, Derek." Lilah said awkwardly and nodded. "Yeah, Alex said I had to.." She trailed off, looking down at her feet. "Thats a shame, kiddo. I was just about to leave but I could help you..? If you want." Derek smiled, trying to help her get things down faster. She felt a bit of that shyness shake off when he offered to help. " I'd love that! Thanks.." She grinned slightly and turned back around to finish locking up the registers.

Delilah moved the CD cart to the back room while Derek took the van stickers off the wall. He grabbed his bag, taking out a gram of weed out. The smell of it instantly hit her nose. "Derek, what the hell?!" She said louder than she intended and walked over to where he was. "Chill out girl, you're acting like you've never seen weed before." Delilah raised an eyebrow and shook her head, pushing his hand back down to his bag. "Not here. Inappropriate place dude." Derek shrugged and put it back in his backpack. "You used to be so chill, lilah, what happened?" He grabbed his car keys and headed for the door. "Maybe since my parents died, i've been trying to keep my life clean and healthy..asshole." She mumbled and grabbed her bag as well since they were already done cleaning.

Derek won't admit it to anyone but ever since they messed around and he completely dumped her, he had felt bad for the younger girl. Everytime he tried to talk, she blew him off. Understandable though. His ego used to be too big for his body.

Delilah made her way home, almost in record time with the empty streets. The second she stepped inside, she was bombarded with questions from aunty Lacy. "Hey babydoll, how was work??" she asked. Delilah sighed, something she did all the time, "it was okay, i hate closing." her stuff was already down on the counter.

"I meant with Derek..any updates with that?" Lacy said, walking over to the basket of clothes.

"How could I forget!" Lilah said sarcastically, rolling her eyes. "He said I wasnt fun anymore.." she pouted.
"Seriously?? That's why you're down in the dumps?" Lacy shook her head, it was unbelievable what made that girl sad sometimes.

Delilah did feel silly but it hurt her. "Yes Lacy, thats what im sad." she said.
"Hey! Maybe you should start writing in a diary. I'm sure it could help an angsty teen like you." she teased, folding the last of the towels.

The thought dawned on Lilah and she nodded. "Maybe you're right. It could be nice talking to something that doesn't give me bullshit back everytime I talk about a problem." her sassy remark left Lacy shook as hell.

Before she ended her saturday night, she went out to the nearby Walgreens and bought herself a small notebook, also stopping at wingstop. The next hour was her writing in it, eating the delicious wings, and scrolling on Tumblr.

Journal Entry 1
January 2nd, 2016

Uh, how do i do this? I'm Lilah, but my real name is Delilah Gaskarth. Weird last name, I know.  My aunt Lacy decided I should start my own diary since I "have so many problems". It's okay though, I understand where she's coming from. Anyways, I guess i'll start with stuff about me, just in case I get in a car wreck and potentially lose all sense of who I am.

I'm 17, currently  a senior in high school. I work for my brother, Alex. He's 26 and more of a child than I am. He owns a music shop downtown with his best friend, Derek. Him we'll get to in a second. I do most of the work around there and I only get paid minimum wage, assholes. On another note, more happier note, I own a 2012 Toyota Corolla, in blue. Sasha, my baby since last year.

Back to manager hotness. I have a huge crush on Derek. 6'4 and full of hunkiness. He's the co-owner of the music shop. It's called "cactus music" a decision they decided while smoking a joint in the backyard of our home. He's in a band, State Champs. I've seen them live at a couple places and I love them.

I was always the annoying little sister so I doubt he even thinks of me as anything other than a friend, but between you and me, he totally made out with me when my body grew boobs. Derek is four years younger than Alex, more mature too.

Today was a good day, all in all. I like this, maybe i'll remember to write tomorrow. Signing off, lilah OUT!
