“I love you” he whispered, his eyes rolling back again.

“No! Stay. With. Me! Do you hear me? Stay with me!”

I heard Trouble neigh and lie down on the ground. I propped him on her back and got on myself. She stood up and started to gallop back to the cornucopia.

“Panem, I need your help! Please, send every kind of medical supply you have!” I was beside myself. The last two minutes had been my own personal hell.

“I n-need him” I added, tears falling down my face.

“I-l love him” I cried while trying to keep Arrow’s body stabilised.

Trouble galloped slowly to the cornucopia while I tried frantically to hold Arrow’s guts in place. He was unconscious now; almost lifeless. If it weren’t for the steady movement of his chest I would have given up hope.

Never in my life did I think I would have said it, let alone to him.

“I love you” I kept telling him, over and over. I knew he couldn’t hear me but it’s the only thing I could say or do. I loved Arrow Arturo, my arch nemesis. He was the boy from my district that annoyed me in the fields, on the train, in the training centre, hell he even annoyed me in the arena. I never really thought I could love someone as hard-headed and arrogant as him and yet, his very presence affected the core of my being.

The sun was setting by now, and it would have been a beautiful afternoon were it not for Tuckett dying and Arrow being severely injured. Now I know why the game makers don’t usually let guns and bullets into the game.

“What’s taking so long?” I screamed to nobody, waiting for the sponsors who were no doubt watching me.

I gently laid Arrow on the ground near the entrance of the barn. I heard the ringing above me almost as soon as I had taken another breath.

I jumped up and ran to the bell, opening a small letter. Why hadn’t they sent me anything else? Before I could open it I ran back to Arrow who started to cough up blood, holding his head up to keep him from choking.

“Stay with me” I kept saying, as I looked around desperately for some kind of help.

Trouble was running around in distress, neighing in alarm at all the commotion. I rolled Arrow onto his said and let him vomit blood. I grabbed onto his hand in an attempt to keep him here with me. I glanced at the small discarded piece of paper and craned my neck to read it. Written in perfect, almost angelic writing was a few words.

“There is nothing we can do.

He’s a goner.

Then everything was a blur.

Without warning I saw a hovercraft heading towards me. Seeing a hovercraft in the hunger games meant only one thing: they were coming to take Arrow away. I looked down at him in horror and yet his chest was still heaving.

“He’s not dead!” I screamed. “You can’t!”

Maybe they heard me, maybe they didn’t. All I know is Arrow Arturo was taken away.

I don’t know how long I stayed there crying but judging from the brightly lit sky it must have been hours. I wasn’t sure what to think anymore and on top of that I had no idea if Arrow was still alive. I kept trying to rethink over and over whether I heard the cannon go off, but no matter how hard I tried I couldn’t remember. Everything was a complete blur, all I remember seeing was Arrow’s lifeless body being taken away.
