*Four years later*
*Tyler's POV*
"LEXI! WAKE UP! COME ON IT'S ALMOST TEN! YOU SAID WE COULD BAKE OUR CHRISTMAS COOKIES TODAY!" I yelled up the stairs for her as Dahvie and Jayy watched from the couch.
"COMING! I'M COMING!" She screamed as she ran out of her room while pulling her long brown hair into a ponytail. She ran down the stairs and I sprinted to the kitchen. Hers is way bigger than mine, so we're baking everything here.
"Don't burn the house down!" Dahvie yelled as Lexi hugged me tightly.
"All right, so what's first? Chocolate chip, sugar cookies, gingerbread, peanut butter drops, pizzelles, or lemon drops? You pick!"
I thought for a moment, trying to pick my least favorite to start with. Maybe the quickest would be easier? Everything is being made from scratch so . . . Chocolate chip? Or maybe the peanut butter?
"UGH! You take too long," Lexi said. "We're making lemon drops first. You start with the icing and I'll make the cookie batter!" She grabbed a bowl and some ingredients, but before she could do anything, I grabbed her wrist.
"Why don't you make the icing and I'll make the batter. Last time I let you make the batter, you put way too much lemon and not enough flour. Plus you almost broke your fingers, which I still have no clue how that happened."
I handed her the bowl and ingredients for the icing and pushed her gently towards the table. She pouted -- of course -- but sat at the table and started whisking ingredients together. By the time she was done with that, I was finished with the batter.
We both rolled the cookies into perfectly sized balls and set them on a cookie sheet. I doubled the ingredients since we give cookies to all of our friends and they are the fastest to go in this house, so we made about one hundred of these in one batch. Thank God Dahvie and Jayy have a double oven so we had four racks of room for the cookies.
We put the cookies in the oven and set the timer, then sat at the table and seperated the icing into two containers. I dropped some red food coloring in my container and Lexi put green in hers. We mixed everything up and licked the big bowl clean of icing. She always makes the most perfect icing.
When the timer went off, we took the cookies out, let them sit for a few minutes, then moved them to cooling racks. Lexi cleaned the cookie sheets as I cleaned the bowls and spoons so we could start on the next batch of cookies.
"Okay, I'm picking this one. We're making chocolate chip next. You don't have a choice," I smiled at her and she rolled her eyes.
We each made half of a batch in our own bowls so we could have a full batch when we were done. I threw a few chocolate chips at her which stuck in her hair and she threw flour in my face. We both cracked up laughing and finished making the chocolate chip cookies and set them on separate cooling racks.
After those, we made peanut butter drops, gingerbread cookies, and the sugar cookies. When we finished those, we realized we had been baking for about seven hours and all we had left were the pizzelles.
"Tyler," Lexi said as she set her head on the table. "I am so tired right now."
"I know, Lex. But we have one more cookie left to do."
"UGH do we even need pizzelles!?"
"Yes, they are my sister's favorite. So get your butt up and help me make this batter!"
She got up and smacked me upside the head. I protested, but she ignored me and plugged in the irons. Once the batter was finished, we used ladles and made the cookies two at a time per iron. And we only have two irons. Boy, this might take a while.
We both almost burned our hands multiple times and I may have dropped a few cookies as I tried to put them on the plate. For how much of each ingredient is in this batter, we really didn't make that many cookies. Oh well, I am pooped.
We cleaned everything up and sat at the table to relax a little bit, but then I noticed something. We never iced the lemon drops.
"Crap, Lexi! We aren't finished!" She groaned and hit her head on the table repeatedly. I stopped her and We both grabbed a container of icing and started working as fast as our thirteen-year-old hands would let us.
About five minutes into icing, Jayy walked in and sat on the other side of the table. "Hey, guys," he said. "Dahvie fell asleep, so do you mind if I help?"
We both smiled and Lexi said "Go right ahead, Uncle Jayy." She moved her icing closer to him and he started helping us.
When there were about twenty cookies left to dip, and Lexi had finished cleaning up the counter and island, Jayy looked at us with a smile.
"Why don't you two head upstairs and get cleaned up? I'll finish up here."
We both looked at him and I asked him if he was sure. He nodded and Lexi ran around the table. She gave him a quick hug and kiss on the cheek and whispered "Thanks, Uncle Jayy" and we ran upstairs.
Lexi took a quick shower and changed her clothes in the bathroom before grabbing me some of Jayy's older clothes for me to change into after I showered. Once I finished, we hung out in her bedroom for a while, trying to finish the game of monopoly we've been playing for about a week.
My dad called around ten and told me he was coming to pick me up in five minutes. We set the game aside and she hugged me before flopping onto her bed. She fell asleep instantly so I covered her in her favorite blanket, grabbed my clothes, and headed downstairs.
*Jayy's POV*
Dahvie woke up right after I finished icing the rest of the cookies, so we put in a movie and cuddled on the couch to watch. I don't even know what movie it was because about five minutes into it, we were kissing. At first, my head was in his lap and he was bent over me. Eventually, we changed position so we were both sitting cross-legged and facing each other.
We sat there forever. Just kissing. The movie playing on in the background. These are the moments I love the most.
After a while, I heard foot steps coming from the stairs. I tried to pull away, but Dahvie grabbed the back of my neck with one hand and rested the other on the small of my back, obviously not hearing the foot steps. But they stopped . . . and then came the small gasp.
"Oh . . . Um . . . S-sorry, I didn't mean to . . . uh interrupt," Dahvie pulled away and let go of me quickly and we saw Tyler standing at the foot of the stair case. He was slowly backing away and he looked unsure if he should look away or keep watching.
I sprung up from the couch and walked towards him. "Tyler, listen to me. You cannot tell Lexi about this. She doesn't know and we don't want her to know . . . for a while at least." He just stared up at me.
"Promise me, Tyler, that you won't, under any circumstance, tell Lexi about us. Promise me."
He nodded slowly as a car honked outside. He walked out the door without saying goodbye and let the door shut behind him quietly. I looked out the window as his dad's car drove away.
I looked at Dahvie, but he was staring at the floor. I sighed and started thinking.
I pray that boy can keep a secret.
