Tiffany looked at the top of the bridge and could see a a flickering of light. She told Sarah to come with her to the top of the bridge. Sarah followed.
Both girls were panting as they arrived on top. "OVER THERE" Sarah yelled, pointing in the direction of the flickering light on the other side of the bridge. Tiffany and Sarah had to break as they bent over, hands on both there knees as they would catch their breath.
They approached the other side of the bridge and the flickering light was Charlotte's flashlight or so they think it is. Until Sarah reached down and found the flashlight and Charlotte's name was on it.
The sound of separating gravel came from beyond. Tiffany quickly shone he light in the direction of the sound. At eye level. There was Charlotte walking towards them. She came forward and whispered "Shhhh" while turning and pointing from where she come.
The next morning, all three girls woke and smiled at each other as they always did each sleepover morning. It was their way of saying they made it to live another day.
Every weekly weekend sleep over always drew excitement. Tiffany looked spooked as Sarah and Charlotte looked at her. "Tiffany are you ok?" Sarah said waving her hand in front of Tiffany's face.
"DO you remember last... night" she said softly.
A few moments later, Sarah replied "What do you mean.... you mean.... about the bridge."
Tiffany looked at Sarah and then at Charlotte. "I don't think we should go back to the bridge again."
Charlotte then spoke softly as she was remembering something about the brigde. " I totally agree. Let's never go there again". Sarah had her mind set on what she was going to say next. "But we should go back!!"
Tiffany yelled "No we shouldn't. I agree with Charlotte".
Charlotte spoke hesitantly with each word while scratching the top of her head. " Forget... about... the... bridge..."
Sarah got up from her sleeping bag and stood with her arms crossed, grinning. Then she snearingly replied "Fine" shrugging her shoulders.
...
All three girls made their way down to Charlotte's kitchen.
In the kitchen. Fruits and baked goods were on the the island's counter top.
Tiffany reached and grabbed an apple. Sarah noticed the oatmeal chocolate chips cookies under the saran wrapped plate near the microwave. Charlotte head over to the kitchen cupboards along the wall and open the far top left. Inside she pulled out the coffee can and sugar.
Next, she prepared the coffee maker and then reached over to grab a banana off the fruit tray which Tiffany grabbed her apple.
Charlotte's mom entered the room and said " Hello ladies, how was your night, last night?"
Tiffany and Charlotte lowered their heads. Sarah the strong, confident one of the three replied, "The bridge..." before she was rudely interrupted by Charlotte.
Charlotte's head looking up now, responded to her mother "Everything is fine... Mom." While elbowing Sarah in the arm.
...
Daylight swallows the feeling inside the girls as they emotional think about the bridge and what they believe happened.
