~~Kyra's POV~~
The trees towered around me and their branches were like out stretched arms that tried to grasp me. I felt a warm breeze whip my hair into the air. A mild shiver made my whole body tingle as it slithered up my spine. I smelt the air, it was fresh and crisp.
I looked over to the right of me and saw my sister looking down at her every step as we ventured further away from the forest. We both were injured from the result of a fierce battle that took place while we were away from home. I had an noticeable limp in my left leg.
We entered into the swamp lands where crocodiles were known to lurk but there was no other way. I glanced up at my sister and she glanced back at me. " follow me" I said, pointing to the left instead of the right. We trudged through the swamp until we took a well needed break.
I stopped at a rotten stump, sticking out of the ground. I sat down and closed my eyes and gulped. My dry tongue desired water to quench my thirst. The sweltering sun was beating directly on me and my face was covered in scratches, bruises, dirt and sweat.
Blood was oozing out of the gash on my arm. I tore a piece of cloth off my shirt and wrapped it tightly around it. I winced as I tightened the cloth. It stung immensely and the cut kept re- opening. I stood up and looked over to Aisha, who was sitting down and reaching into her bag for food. I flung my bag off my shoulders and dug through it looking for the map.
I took it out and looked at where we were. No, we weren't lost but I was still unsure where to go. I sat back down again and studied my surrounding, far off I'm pretty sure I saw land. "It's that way Aisha" I said pointing to the bit of land that was far away. We started back on our way and before I knew it, I was standing on dry land.
The sun was setting so we decided to set up camp. By the time we finished setting up our tent The moon had already peeked out over the horizon. A couple minutes later everything went silent and I fell into a deep sleep.
~~My dream~~
My mother crouched down beside me, her voice laced with sorrow " My baby girl" she put her cold hand on my cheek "I have to go now but I will see you soon" I felt the tears emerge from my eyes and roll down my cheeks. " Momma.." I chocked up " please don't abandon us" she looked up at Aisha then back at me " I love you both, please keep each other safe" My mothers eyes were puffy and red. " I love you too, Momma!" I squeezed her as tight as I could, never wanting to let go. I released my grip and mother stood up. " Run towards the North Star, both of you, go now!" I listened to her orders and grasped Aisha's hand tightly as we both ran towards the gleaming star. Horrifying screams echoed behind me but I told myself not to look. Instead of listening to myself, I stopped dead in my tracks and glanced back. My vision was blurry from the tears but I saw a huge raging fire consuming our village. " Momma?" I whispered.~~end of the dream~~
I woke up, gasping for air. My pillow was drenched in sweat and hot tears seeped out of my eyes. I heard a faint howl and shivered at the sound. It was still dark. The time was about 6:00 am. I zipped down the tent and crawled out. I looked up to the night sky. " good morning Momma" I whispered to the sky. I felt as if she was greeting me back and I smiled. I heard a yawn behind me and noticed Aisha was waking up. I quickly wiped the tears off my face with my sleeve.
"Good morning sleepy head" I giggled. She yawned again and began searching through her bag for food. "Dang...Were out of food, looks like no breaky today, ughhhhh. Luckily still two jugs of water" she said. " We better get a move on" I sighed. We still had to venture through more swamp land to reach our destination. I took a big gulp of water and walked forward. After a couple hours I could see GriffinTail and I was over joyed! " Finally, were home" I said looking at Aisha. She nodded in agreement.
When we reached land we were exhausted and took a long rest. The sun was setting and we still had a few miles to walk. "Lets camp here" Aisha suggested, I just nodded at her and we got to work. I luckily brought a fishing rod in case we ran out of food. I found a gentle lake. Fish would swim past me now and then. The sun was setting fast and it was hopeless by the end. I had not caught anything and we were both starving.
When I was going to give up, I felt a strong tug on the line. I pulled with all my strength and I realized I caught a decent sized fish. I started a fire with my magic and we roasted the fish and dug into it when was done. When we were both satisfied, I put out the fire and we crawled into the tent and fell asleep immediately. The morning was bright and I woke to a ray of light hitting my face.
I had slept peacefully all night and I was still tired. I wanted to go back to bed when I realized that today we were going to reach our destination. "Finally!" I thought to myself. A couple hours later, after walking for a dreaded 4 miles we reached GriffinTail. " We reached GriffinTail...finally." I thought aloud "yes, finally " Aisha said as she sighed in relief. We looked at each other with smirks on our faces and marched on towards home.
