The Awake

Life is 10% what happens to us and 90% how we react to it.

Annie's POV: The doctors wheel her away for more tests and she smiles at us and says "It's good to be back". "Annie" My mom taps me on the shoulder smiling through tears of joy. "What?" I say. "Lets throw a surprise party in Katie's honour. "Yes!" I say. I quickly text all the girls and of course, Brennan, Caleb and Luke.

Me: Hey guys! Guess what? Katie came out of her coma. We're gonna throw her a surprise party at my house tonight. Be at mine at 4 o'clock so we can decorate and she will arrive at 5.

Everyone texts back except Liv, which is no surprise. The doctors to come back with Katie's test results. "Well, we have good news!" The doctor announces. "Yay!" Everyone cheers, even Katie's mom who has spent the last half hour sobbing in a corner. "We also have bad news" Everyone groans. "I'll tell you the good news first." The doctor says pausing before he continues. "The good news is that we just completely scanned Katie and she is currently 100% cancer free. We all cheered and clapped. "The bad news is. . . . that it could come back at anytime. One day she could be doing flips happily at the playground and the next she could be barely alive." The room went deadly silent. "Buuuuut, on a more happier note - she's fine for now so enjoy your time with her while she's still here." Brennan shot me a 'Well he's positive isn't he?' look and we smiled at each other. Brennan came back home with us to help us decorate the house while his parents signed some documents back at the hospital. On the way back, we stopped of at a store and got some decorations and food before heading back home to wait for the girls to arrive so we could start decorating. A while later everyone was there, even Liv and my mom gave us the decorations and we decorated the dining room and put the food on the table. Then we hung up a banner that we had made that said 'Congratulations Katie!' Then we turned off all the lights and set up our phones to catch Katie's reaction.

Brennan's POV: We heard a car pull up at the driveway and we all hid. Katie came through the door which we left open. "Hello?" She calls. I put my hand over my mouth so I don't laugh. "Hello?" She calls. "They're not home!" She yells out to Mom. "They will be, just go inside!" Mom calls back. Good thing we let her in on the surprise. "She pushes the door open to the dining room and Annie flicks the lights. "SUPRISE!" We all yell. We run up and have a group hug. "Guys, you shouldn't have" Katie says crying tears of happiness. "But we did anyways" Caleb says. Annie's mom was filming from under the table. "Alright kids! Dig in!" She says motioning towards the huge amount of food on the table. We all take a photo and post them on our Instagram's. "Okay everyone!" Katie says. "Let's take a group photo!" She says. We all huddle together. "Wait, where's Liv and Luke?" Annie says.
