Colony 94-G (Chpt. 1)

As they put up the last wall, the last covering to the colony base, Carter felt like the team actually accomplished something. First the air filter then the outer wall. nothing could possibly eat the titanium welded plating. It had to be the 'sabotage'. There was no possible way it could have just eroded. But at the time, there had been acts of terrorism all over mars. Just two months earlier, Colony 12-A the twelfth colony ever established, had a breach and the vacuum of space emptied everything from objects to people. And the outer shield didn't activate as soon as the rift was noticed by the system. Every person in every colony blamed the Earthen Empire.

The Earthen Empire loathed the idea of deep space colonization. They believed that Earth should've been their one homeland, and became radical once the first ship left. They organized a terrorist group called 'Sabotage' who tried to tear apart the colonies. The citizens did't know about the group, only the marines and of course the government did. They didn't want mass frenzy that this knowledge would obviously bring.

But Carter called up his team, Spirit, letting them know colony 94-G would be fine. Melissa was the first to answer, as always.

"Well that's good news! The best we've had in weeks!" she said, laughing with joy.

"It's the Sabotage. it has to be." Carter responded grimly.

"Why 94?" Her voice raised, "I thought they were starting with the northern hemisphere!" Melissa's joy turned to anger and her anger turned to disbelief.

"It's fine. Just keep a sharp eye out for tan skin. Those empire idiots are way to close to the sun." Carter suggested.

The call ended.

Melissa teared up to hear such news. It pained her to hear of the empire around the 94-G section. For personal reasons. She was stationed early and her family was stuck on the moon. When they had finally departed, their ship was invaded by the empire, and her family was taken hostage. The empire, not knowing the cruiser's technology, did not respond to the reactor meltdown. The core melted, causing the explosion. Her family, along with 20,213 colonists, were terminated. And since then she always had a hand at the hilt of the knife her father gave her, which she carried at her waist in a small leather satchel.

Melissa's helmet picked up a strange signal. A low, almost invisible heat signature, But not human heat. It was the heat that strong friction makes. And the colonies tech didn't make too much friction as it would wear out the gears and batteries. She called up the machinery crew.

"Um, i think one of the spinners are too tight, I'm picking up friction in the under levels where the maintenance closets are." Melissa started, still stern and upset from the conversation before with Carter.

The man on the other end hesitated to respond, "What? I just fixed those! GARY! DID YOU MESS WITH THE SPINNERS?" He yelled over the earpiece, "NO? OKAY! Nah you must be mistaken. The spinners are fine."
