Spirit took the offer and ran once their ammo depleted. They sealed the tunnels and notified the citizens for a full evacuation. they didn't want one more demise to take place.
They sprinted for the large 50 meter wide entrance that led to the other colony. Once the door shut, the monster's energy cycled down, and it put its hood back up. It took its arms up and vanished with a blue turquoise flash.
The team had cleared everyone to the colony base 93 and 95-G. 94 was shut down and all of the bases from E to I, went into lock-down. The titanium plates covered the windows, only artificial light shining red, dimly. Everyone went quiet. Which only made the next sound more terrifying. A screech of metal against metal rattled the neighboring colonies. After about 15 seconds of horrible sound, silence. No body spoke, excepting the quiet background of a child crying. Carter and the team behind him slowly walked towards the exit that they took to get to their current colony location. Opening a small plate exposed a window. Carter peered through. Melissa assisted. Nothing. Just a sandy crater over 3 miles long, the average size of each colony base. The bowl had to be 2 or 3 miles deep into Mars's surface.
94-G was gone.
Melissa stared deeply into Carters eyes and slowly said, "I'm scared."
"Your not the only one." Carter said, absolutely stunned at what he was seeing.
He flashed on his radio. Just screaming. Suddenly a voice. Of a woman.
"He-- hello? Please... please help me."
"Ma'am, where are you?"
"ah-- I- I don't kn-- know. Please help me."
"Where are you?"
Another voice in the background spoke quiet enough that it was hard to hear.
"Oh god. PLEASE NO! PLEASE DON'T HUR-"
It cut off, but a new, low, angry, voice took her place. "You are eradicated. All will fall to me."
Another voice in the background.
"You are eradicated. All will fall to me."
Another.
"You are eradicated. All will fall to me."
One thousand more screams
"You are eradicated. All will fall to me." "You are eradicated. All will fall to me.""You are eradicated. All will fall to me.""You are eradicated. All will fall to me.""You are eradicated. All will fall to me.""You are eradicated. All will fall to me.""You are eradicated. All will fall to me.""You are eradicated. All will fall to me.""You are eradicated. All will fall to me.""You are eradicated. All will fall to me.""You are eradicated. All will fall to me.""You are eradicated. All will fall to me.""You are eradicated. All will fall to me.""You are eradicated. All will fall to me.""You are eradicated. All will fall to me."
Carter turned off the radio, chilled.
"I-- " Melissa stammered, "What do we do?"
"Well we can't do nothing. It's our job to protect."
"No! its our job to kill the empire! I didn't sign up to kill.. whatever these things are!"
"Melis-"
She walked into the crowd of citizens, towering over them in the powerful armor she wanted to use to exact vengeance over those she lost. Crying softly, she stood up straight, holding her rifle like her father taught her. She took long strides, passing 3 civilians with each step. Never had Melissa, this dogmatic, tough woman feel so powerless.
Emily looked at Carter from across the room, her visor glinting from the red emergency lights. If it weren't for her helmet hiding her face, he would see a frightened face, that of a young child missing her parents. Nothing could hide Mars's fear and trepidation. The entirety of the colonies was silent. For a moment, nothing, not a noise, just wonder, a dread of the future that would come. And it came.
