Chap #1

Looking out the window, I saw the trees, the grass, the rock and dirt pass as we descended upon the road.

It calmed me to know I was back to the country.

Honestly it was my home. Well, nowhere was my home, but you know, as long as I'm with Ace, I'm not too lost.

"There it is..." Ace muttered as she drove up to a large two story white house with a black roof and red windows and door.

We pulled into the small drive and just stared blankly at the structure of wood and brick and paint. As if we thought that staring at it would make it our old home. As if we thought maybe just a certain look we could make our faces form would wake us from this nightmare.

No such luck exists.

I looked at Ace just as she looked at me. We shared the same expression.

Fear.

She smiled, and for once, it wasn't one of a fake, it was a real Ace Time smile.

I gave a short nod, keeping my expression empty.

I stepped out of the truck, and grabbed my bag of everything I owned, then slammed the old rusty door closed and walked up to the front door with Ace, she knocked on with a smooth snap of her wrist and soon it opened.

There, stood a small little girl who looked to be about nine.

Ace smiled, then spoke.

"Hello, I'm Ace and this is Liesl. Can we please speak to Mrs. Linda?"

The little girl screamed, then ran somewhere into the house yelling;

"They're here! They're here!"

I raised an eyebrow and looked around as Ace chuckled.

A few seconds later, an older looking lady walked up to the door smiling brightly at us.

Ace returned it as I just looked at my hand and messed with the key ring that was on my thumb.

"Oh my goodness! You two are so grown! And beautiful! Come in come in!

Ace stepped in then I.

We looked around the area, admiring the comfy, homey feeling it gave.

"Chris! Come show the girls to their room!"

The little girl from before came in, but this time she had cookie crumbs covering her mouth and shirt as her cheeks looked like a chipmunk who ha just found ten nuts, and tried stuffing every single one in their mouth.

"Hmphm ruffle phump pimk fumphle!" She mumbled through her cookie filled mouth.

After she shared her little sentence, she grabbed Ace's hand and Ace grabbed mine as she got pulled along up the stairs.

We were soon in front of a black door with red stripes going in all different directions.

Chris had finally swallowed her cookie and started giggling as she swung the door open, to reveal a room with three black walls, and one red wall.

On the red wall, a large flat screen T.V hung on the wall with an Xbox hooked up to it. All around the room was little red designs on the black walls, and black ones on the red wall. There were two metal loft beds on either side of the T.V.

One had a black comforter with red designs and the other was red with black. I threw my bag on the black with red as Ace did the same to the other.

They each had a desk under them with a lamp and new school supplies. They also each had a dresser built into them.

On the top with the bed was an adjustable table that clipped on and off of each side. One side had a white board, and the other had a chalk board.

Soon Linda came in with a plate of cookies and sent Chris out with two in her hand.

She had us sit down on the rug with her, she wanted to talk. This scared me and Ace could tell, which made her uneasy.

I guess Linda could tell too, and quickly spoke, not wanting us to be uncomfortable.

"I just wanted to tell you about school and clothing! Don't worry dears, you will not be told to speak unless you want to."

Ace instantly relaxed, and gave me a reassuring smile. I replaced my worried face with a relieved one, then a blank one.

"You two will be in the same classes in school, I made sure of it. Ace told me over the phone she was ahead a year, and you were ahead two so you're both seniors, right?"

Ace nodded and I gave a short nod.

"Ok, so I was think since school starts tomorrow and you two don't have much to wear you'd go shopping in about an hour? My treat of course."

Ace nodded then spoke for the both of us knowing exactly what I was thinking.

"That would be great, we will both start job searching tomorrow after school and will soon repay you."

I gave another short nod and Linda gave us a look that told us we were crazy.

"Ok then. But don't be in too much of a rush too."

We both nodded then got up.

I helped Linda up while she said she would let us settle in, then handed us both bank cards, and smiled while winking, then walked out telling us to have fun.
