Take Me Home

I awake again hours later. Ugh, of course the one night I wear a dress is the night I get knocked on the head and thrown in a ditch.

I miss my combat boots.

I pull myself off the ground slowly, trying to avoid jarring anything that's injured. I clutch a tree desperately trying not to fall.

It's going to be a long walk home.

As I shift to attempt walking a searing pain latches out in my chest. I can't stop myself from whimpering. The pain spreads down my chest cavity into the pit of my stomach until I collapse onto the ground with a scream.

"Kassaanaaa!" I barely hear someone scream. More scream from different voices ring out through the woods, some of them more coherent than others. "Kassy!" "Kassandra!!" "Kassaa!!"

I hear a shriek scream out loudly and can't place it until I realize the sound belongs to me.

Suddenly blurry faces surround me.

I'm lifted up suddenly into warm arms. I cradle against the strangers chest.

"I thought you were gone. I can't believe I found you," a voice whispers into my collar. I feel hot tears splash down on my neck. My hand travels up the strangers back and into his hair as he cries. "Please take me home," I whisper before passing out in the boys arms.

Jake's point of view.

She's a mess. Her beautiful white dress is torn and bloodied. I can't believe I let this happen.

But she's safe.

Well, sort of. I hold her hand from my chair next to her hospital bed. She's been sleeping for the last two days. Three of her ribs are broken, and she has a concussion.

I hold my head in my free hand. My eyes wander up to my hand holding hers. I catch sight of something sparkling just beneath my sleeve. The necklace...

It's been fastened around my wrist for four days. Two days searching the woods with cops I barely know and two sitting beside a hospital bed praying she wakes up.

Why am I so worried about this girl? She's just my best friend...
