Chapter 1:

Being mute is the most horrible thing for me to go through. And I had to do it for...now going on 19 years? Yep, that's about right. Mute.

Some people think of muting a sound, like for a game, or an ad, and others. But others don't even know the definition of mute, cause I swear, people are getting dumber every day. There's a slim chance that a person will ask me, "why did you become mute?"

I just want to cave their faces in.

Really.

They don't believe the fact I was born mute. A birth defect in my vocal cords. That's all it is. Stupid genes.

I'm currently sitting here in my gaming chair, waiting for a miracle to happen, while playing Black Ops 2. For this, it sucks too. I can't talk to my fellow gamers. It'd be funny to see, oops, I mean hear their reactions to my girl-ness, since I am quite the pro at this. I'm level 55, prestige master.

"Kaylee, time for dinner!" My "mother" calls.

She's not my actual mother. I was adopted when I was 13. I had a friend in the orphanage, his name was Axyn and he had black hair and blue-gray eyes. He was my friend, and only friend. We still are friends, but we don't talk much anymore. He was adopted by a poor family compared to my rich family. Honestly even though his family is poor, they have a better personality than mine. Mine are bratty and stuck up.

I get downstairs, and see my perfect mom setting the dinner table up. After quickly finishing up, since it was only for two, she started heading out into our kitchen. Her words wanted to make me shiver, but I could understand why. "Your father won't be home until tonight," She paused, stopping in her steps. I could tell she couldn't, and wouldn't continue, even though she wanted to. I finished her sentence for her mentally.

So you might want to go somewhere tonight.

I nodded slightly, before sitting down. This didn't happen often. Being a famous actor, he was around a lot. And we lived in South Carolina, while he was in California. He wasn't here often, but was really rich. He probably has a mansion in Cali, we have a mansion here, and I will soon have a mansion by the beach in Georgia.

My mom comes out with a pot of Mac and Cheese. My favorite. I scoop some out onto my plate, a few scoops actually, and I start to take my first bite.

"Hey, Kaylee, do you want your voice back?"
