It was one week before the biggest ball in the country. One week before hundreds, thousands, of people would all converge into one enormous ballroom.

One week before my life changed forever. Only seven days until my eighteenth birthday.

And don't just stop reading right there because you think this is going to be some girly story where people fall in love, have unnaturally good looking children, and race off into the sunset.

I don't think you're up for the challenge. Do you?

ONE WEEK BEFORE THE BALL...

The White Moon Palace was bustling with preparation. Preparing rooms, cleaning, cooking.

I sat in what I liked to call the Throne Room, because of the high backed chairs, the marble floor, crystal chandeliers and silver archways.

My father, Alpha of White Moon, signaled to be quiet.

Another Alpha was here.

"Alpha Daniels."

The Alpha of the Black Moon Pack dropped low to his knees before my father. It was almost comical to see someone so powerful press their forehead against the floor, but it was custom when you arrived at the residence of another pack.

In the world of wolves, there was a hierarchy. The Head Alpha came first. Then regular Alphas. Lunas. After that came Betas. Then there were those who are only important within their individual packs. Then Omegas.

My father, the Head Alpha, inclined his head for Alpha Adams to rise.

"Ryder, you can go train the pups now. But be gentle, there's been enough bruises."

My fathers eyes had turned a deathly amber and blood-colored fur rippled under his skin. The Alphas had arrived.
