Curiosity killed the cat.
Natalie's words seeped through my every thought. I understand that my curiosity can get the best of me at times but the more I heard about Featherstone Forest, the more I desperately wanted to go and explore it. Of course I've been told of the 'myths' that lay beyond the woods of the forest but nobody ever really saw. Besides Natalie of course. Even though she never told me what she saw I knew just by the way her words slipped through her mouth and that they were laced with fear. What ever she saw, it ruined her. I want to know what's in there, I need to know what's in there, but I had a strange fear that... it might just ruin me too.
I walked out of my last period class and began my way off the school grounds. There were no buses. There was simply no need. It's a small town close to a small school. Everybody can just walk to and from school. (Although some people had cars.)
The cold autumn air blew past me making my dark hair move with the breeze. I grabbed a tight hold on my jacket holding it closer to my body trying to provide some warmth. I was getting closer to the entrance of my neighborhood, but I didn't want to go home just yet. I know everybody told me not to, but didn't care at the moment. I just wanted to see what everybody was talking about, to see why they fear Featherstone so much. The forest pretty much surrounds the entire town of Featherstone, so everybody lives in fear. Don't they know that if there were and myths in forest that they would leave it or at least come out of the forest? I mean it makes sense right? No, it's just you Naomi..
I snap out of my thoughts and notice I never stopped walking. I was just letting my own feet guide me to the forest it self. And here I stood, only two feet away from just walking into the feared forest of Featherstone. I don't even know how I let myself get here, but I did. I take my backpack off of my back and place it on the ground. I unzip the front pouch of my backpack and pull out my black iPhone then I slip it into my back pocket. Better safe then sorry right? I close up my backpack and stand up from my previous crouched position. I decide to just leave my backpack here, I mean who's gonna come and steal it?
I stand straight up and let out a big exhale watching as my warm breath creates a cloud in the cold air. I needed to relax. Yeah, relax. I try my best to relax my uneasy nerves and prepare myself for the journey I'm about to risk. I know I've only been here for a very short amount of time, I know we are staying here for a while so why not. I can already tell this town is boring and the only thing to do in my opinion is explore. The forest is the most interesting thing that's ever happened since I've been here. (Even though it's only been one week.) I take one step at a time getting closer and closer to the forest and that's when I hear a snap! The sound came from inside the forest, I was one step away from entering it. The sound was quick and sounded like a stick being stepped on. I stumble back a bit, fearing what might come out.
I wait in feared silence for any sense if movement, but there's nothing, just silence. I take the silence as a welcome. Weird, I know. I proceed my journey into the lost woods known as the Featherstone Chapel forest. It was huge, majority of it being trees or empty nothing but I knew there was more to it. I walked around further and further into the forest. I continue my walk around just digging my small body deep and deeper into the unknown. I look up at the sky and see it's getting dark. Shit. I begin to regret this. I don't even know my way back. I start to panic a bit. My breathing starts to pick up and I start running. I don't know where just yet where I am going but I need to get out. I hear a faint scream, not far from where I am and I stop. It was a boy screaming, I could tell by how much deeper it was compared to a girls scream. I stop in my tracks, there I stood in the middle of a forest. Lost. I hear foot steps, fast paced foot steps. Like someone is running. I turn around and BAM! I'm knocked over my a boy my age. We stand up and he backs away almost scared of me. He had short brown hair and big brown eyes that were bloodshot, along with dark bags under them. His cloths were worn out and tattered. He looks like he hasn't slept in days and has been crying.
"Yo-your not one of then a-are you.." The boy speaks backing away from me. "What? One of what?" I say also scared.
"He's coming." He speaks in fear. "He's coming to kill me, just like he did to Ashley." Then I realized, It's Jake, Jake Miller. The lost boy we were talking about at lunch today.
"You're Jake?" I ask. He doesn't respond but nods. He looks around frantically as waiting in fear for somebody to appear.
"He's coming, we need to go. He's gonna kill us if we don't run-" He stops speaking and freezes. His eyes nearly pop out of his head. He begins to shake his no, his head moving side to side frantically. He slowly walks back away from me but not to far. He cowers in fear and shows nothing but it.
"What? Jake, who's coming!?" I ask frantically. What's he talking about. Who's coming.
He points his index finger at me, but then I realize. He was pointing behind me. His finger shook and his words came out soft, quiet, and uneasy.
"He's already here. He's watching me," He says. But what he says next makes my stomach flip. "And he's watching you."
I stay silent and Jake does the same. What scares me is that I actually do begin to feel eyes on me. Like we are indeed being watched. The temperature nearly drops in a matter of seconds and I shiver at the sudden effect. But then, I feel warmth. Cold breath moving down my neck, but the cold turns into a sudden warmth as it hits my tan skin. I'm still facing Jake and I never seen some one so feared in my life. "J-Jake. I need you to run. Run as fast as you can and d-don't stop." I say quietly. But I know he heard. I don't know why I stood hear basically risking my own life for a boy I didn't even know. But I am. He quickly nods his head and takes no time to sprint away as fast as he can. I silently pray that he makes it out.
I slowly turn around only to be met by nothing. Absolutely nothing. I take my phone out of my back pocket and just my luck, it's dead...
I know there's one thing on my mind, and that is I need to run.
I don't know what made me but I start running but I don't stop either. I go as fast as my short legs will take me. I did sports all my life which I am so thankful for at the moment because if I didn't I know I'd be screwed. I run past trees and bushes and small shrubs I dodge as much things as I can trying not to get hurt, or trip and fall. I keep my quick pace and continue running through the unknown. Why, if only I had listened to them, I wouldn't have regret this. Soon the trees start to become less, I think I'm near an opening. I stop in my tracks and slow down my running pace when I'm met with a castle. A castle?
Then I think.
Oh, shit. I ran the wrong way. I though I was running closer to home, back out of the forest. But no, I was only going deeper and deeper into the unknown. I don't know what got into me but I let my feet guide me to it's where abouts. I find my feet guiding my small body closer and closer to the entrance of the castle. It's starts to rain the closer I get and I knew that I didn't want to get sick or even die out here that I had to get inside. I place my small hand onto the gold door handle and hope its open. I silently pull on the door handle and it creates a high pitch squeak that bring pain to my ears. I jump when I hear a loud 'howl' not to far away. I quickly get inside and close the door in a bang. So much for being quiet. I walk inside getting a better look of the place. It seems to have been a home, of some sort. It had what pretty much ever house had. A living area, kitchen, and so on. But everything was much bigger. I find a large stair case and begin to walk up hoping to find something. I find a lit candle sitting on a small desk at the front if the stair way and take it with me while I walk up the dark stair way.
I walk up and find a long hallway to my left. I walk down the hallway and see there's a bedroom door that's open. I walk to that door and make my way inside. There's a large bed placed in the middle of the bedroom with a dark wooden headboard up against the cream painted walls. The bed was neatly made and had a deep rich red color sheets and pillows. The room had several dressers of the same woods as the headboard. But a desk caught my eye. The dark woods once again matching the furniture it the room. The desk had a chair slightly pulled out, in which I take a seat in. The desk had nothing on it, besides a book. The book didn't have anything on it. The was a blank black covered book. I set my candle down on the desk in front of me. I open the blank book and it reads.
