Ch 3: A Quest and An Offer
(Y/N) POV
I felt the warm golden rays of morning upon my face as I arose from my slumber, my mind still muddied from tiredness. For I moment, i panicked, feeling the silken sheets and softness of the bed which could not belong to any inn, before remembering my encounter with the Pharaoh of Egypt. I dragged myself for the bed, awaking a certain reptile sleeping at it's foot. Orito growled in annoyance at me.
"Oh quiet you,"
I stretched my arms and leg to shake off the numbness before dressing myself and preparing myself for the day. I walked out of the room, Ori on my shoulder, and searched for Atem in hopes of thanking him before I departed for my hunt. Not paying attention, I ended up running into the Star Reader from the day before. I helped her onto her feet.
"My apologies Alexandra,"
"No trouble! I can be a bit of a scatterbrain in the morning. I see the pharaoh isn't the only early riser," I chuckled.
"An old habit I doubt I'll shake off. I was hoping you could tell me where Atem is so I can thank him before I leave," she looked gloomy at this statement.
"Leaving so soon?"
"I'd rather not be a burden on anyone. Besides, I have a treasure hunt to return to,"
"Well, Atem is in the dinning hall and I was just about to join him. Follow me," she led me back to the hall from the previous day and I saw Atem conversing with several important looking figures, including Muhad and Seto. He looked troubled, however, upon seeing my for whatever reason, it melted into a smile.
"(Y/N), good morning! I hope you slept well,"
"Better than I have in awhile actually. What's all the commotion," Seto sneered.
"Nothing that concerns you," Muhad cleared his throat.
"High Priest, I remind you she is the guest of the Pharaoh and saved his life. Treat her with respect please," he only rolled his eyes as Alexandra gave the explanation.
"Recently, a band of thieves has been tormenting villages on the outer skirts of the kingdom. The generals believe finding their lair may lead to the Thief King," I looked to her in confusion.
"I kept hearing that name while I was traveling through here. Who is this 'Thief King'?" Atem took control of the explanation
"His name is Bakura. He has a vendetta against the royal family and wants my head on a platter. He was most likely the mastermind of yesterday's assassination attempt,"
"What will happen to those men exactly?" Seto answered in return.
"They will be questioned on the Thief King's whereabouts and then be imprisoned for life or beheaded if they refuse to cooperate," I gulped as I gripped my neck. One of the generals turned the conversation back to the thieves.
"We know their hideout is located somewhere in this area. Once we locate it, we can raid, capture them and the stolen goods, and return the riches to the people," Atem rubbed his forehead.
"The problem being that the area in question is plagued by sandstorms making it extremely dangerous to blindly wander in,"
"These thieves maybe our link to Bakura, your Hughes's. We must at least try,"
"You said these thieves have been taking treasures from the citizens correct?"
"Yes, that is what thieves tend to do," Seto answered. I smirked.
"I can find their hideout,"
"You? Ha! How could one peasant do what several generals could not?"
"Firstly, your rudeness, I prefer nomad. Secondly, look at this," I moved the sleeve of my robe down my arm in order to reveal my bracelet.
"This magical item has been passed down for generations in my family. It allows us to locate treasures and potential allies. Usually, I just let it lead me to my next treasure, but I can have it locate specific treasures," the men had a look of shock upon their faces as they honed in on the eye on the bracelet,"
"It bares the symbol of the millennium items! This proves she must be in cahoots with the Thief King if she has one!"
" I told you, ingrate, it's been passed down in my family!"
"Besides Seto, I've never remembered father mentioning a millennium item in the form of a bracelet. I will ask only once more, please do not insult my guest," He only grumbled in response.
"Now, as I was saying before I was rudely interrupted, this bracelet will locate any treasure I specify. And since the thieves are probably keeping it in their lair..."
"It'll lead us right too it!"
"Correct general,"
"(Y/N), are you sure you can handle this? I don't want you to be in danger," I smirked.
"I should be asking you that question Pharaoh, if yesterday is a testament to your 'skill'," the next moment was priceless. The ever graceful king turned red as a ripe berry and began sputtering nonsense, adorably.
"No! Of course I... I can..oh by silent!" Everyone laughed as Atem hid his face in his hand. I turned my back and grabbed a piece of fruit.
"Saddle up, gentlemen. We have thieves to catch,"
