Ch 9: Wedding Day
(Y/N) POV
A moon of choosing colors, flowers, a guest, food, and restricting Atem's sexual advances, I stood in my now former room in front of a mirror. If I couldn't recognize myself in my guard uniform, I wasn't the person in the reflection. I was garbed in a white silk dress with gold around the edges. A sapphire was embedded into the center of the chest. It was an excellent idea for me not to use the more revealing dresses Mana had suggested. Alexandra accented my eyes by using (F/C) eye shadow and kohl ((eyeliner)). The two girls stepped back to survey their work.
"You look wonderful (Y/N)!" Mana squealed in delight.
"Thank you Mana. I just...can't believe all this. I thought I was going to wander the world forever,"
"And instead you're about to marry and cross blood with a Pharaoh," Alexandra smirked.
"Yeah, that,"
"Not getting cold feet are you (Y/N)?"
"No Mana, it's just....I don't know if I can be the wife and queen Atem and this country need me to be!"
"Don't be ridiculous! No one is more suitable for the job! Regardless of what my lover may say!"
"(Y/N), you've put your life in jeopardy multiple times to protect Atem and the citizens! You'll be an amazing queen,"
"Thank you, both of you. Well, we best be going," Alexandra grabbed my arm.
"Hold it! There is still one more thing,"
She began digging into the jewelry box and pull out a crown. It was, of course, gold and encrusted with several gems. She quickly secured it to my forehead before moving back.
"Perfect! Now you look like a queen," I blushed.
"This seems too much,"
"Nonsense! Too far is what Mana did to Ori,"
The little reptile was currently on the bed, trying desperately to claw, scratch, and bit the collar around his neck off. I walked over to him and scratched the area.
"Hang in there little one, it won't be long," his tail drooped as Mana picked him up and started dragging me to the ceremonial hall.
"Come on you! Can't have you late for your own wedding!"
Atem POV
I stood at the foot of my throne with Seto and Muhad on either side of me. All three of us were dressed in our best ceremonial robes and I was decorated with my crown and millennium puzzle. Seto cleared his throat.
"It is still not too late to stop this," Muhad chuckled.
"Ignore him, my king. He's just horrified that in a few moments, (Y/N) will outrank him," Seto glared at him. I was barely listening as I thought back to this pass moon:
Through the chaos of planning this whole event, (Y/N) and I still found time for each other, wether it be sharing a meal, reading through scrolls in the library, or playing senet (I swear she cheats). Seto hadn't allowed us to share a room, unfortunately, so we had only been intimate the night of my birthday. Along with the fact that (Y/N) had been rejecting my advances, I was rather frustrated in a way. Honestly, I couldn't wait to get my precious queen alone in our chambers for the night. I snapped out of my thoughts as I heard music beginning to play.
Then I saw her.
Ra above, she looked gorgeous. She appeared to be a goddess descended from the heavens in order to stand by my side. She joined me in front of the throne, in front of the gathered crowd of officials, nobles, citizens, and guards. I took her hands and led her to the pillows set in front of a small table. ((Also do not know about Egyptian weddings, soooo here's a combination of things I've read and Mulan)) We both sat with our legs tucked beneath us with Seto joining us. He set a chalice between us before asking for our palms. We acted upon it and he took my familial wedding knife and cut our palms barely enough to draw blood and allowing the droplets to land in the cup. He then brought our hands to the chalice and tied our wrists together and forced us to raise the chalice.
"In drinking this cup, you swear your souls to each other, in life and in death. The sash represents the bond between you both, may it be unbreakable. Do you promise to keep this bond strong and true?"
"We will,"
"Then by drinking, I bond you both as husband and wife!"
I was the first to drink from the cup. The wine was sweet, with only a slight iron taste from the blood. I then brought the chalice to (Y/N)'s lips, who then took her sip. As was tradition, we lowered the cup and placed our foreheads together. The crowd cheered as we stood up and Muhad untied our wrist. I grabbed my new wife by the waist and gave her a desperate kiss which she happily returned. We separated finally after needing air and only looked at each other smiling...
Until
I was able to see a familiar look in her eyes before she tackled me to the ground and I saw a knife fly past us.
Of course.
(Y/N) POV
One day, one cursed day just so Atem and I could wed.
But no, the Thief King couldn't care less about the wants of others.
I got off my husband before unsheathing the scimitar I had hidden beneath my dress (a guard is always prepared) and saw the mongrels beginning to attack the guests. I wasted no time jumping into the fray and beating down as many as I could. What? They were ruining my wedding day. Luckily, the visiting noble's guards along with palace's finest also joined the fight. Atem came to my side and guarded my rear. These minions were nothing to us and were soon outmatched. Just as the last one fell, I heard clapping and a familiar voice.
"Well done, little guard. Or would it be your highness now?"
Bakura sat in a elevated window, a devilish smirk on his face. Atem bared his teeth.
"Bakura! How dare you disrupt this sacred ceremony!"
"Now now pharaoh, I have only come to offer my congratulations! You truly must be desperate for your people's approval to marry that little desert rat," I clicked my tongue.
"Takes a rat to know a rat. At least the people respect me, unlike you fluffy," he growled.
"I'd watch your tone, your highness! Wouldn't want that pretty face to be unnecessarily scarred!" Atem stepped in front of me.
"Over my dead body," Bakura grinned madly.
"That could be arranged pharaoh. Know this! If you refuse to step down from your position, your precious queen may find herself in more danger than usual, especially if she finds herself with a special kind of treasure in her belly,"
Without another word, he jumped out the window. Atem roared.
"After him! Don't let him escape!" The guards pursued, with Muhad leading the charge while we managed to gather the frightened guests. Somehow, someway, Atem managed to calm them and we continued on to the feast. Of course, with the attack, the servants insisted on testing the food and drink for poison. Luckily, nothing was toxic, and the feast continued on normally. Atem smiled as he fed me some fruit while I returned the favor and feed him a piece of pheasant. Every time my mouth was stained, he would kiss and lick it away.
After the feast, Atem and I began the dance. We spent hours together, dancing and dancing until the sun was on the horizon. By then, Seto had grabbed our hands and led us to the balcony. The entire population of the city cheered as we were presented. The crown I had been wearing had been removed and a much more regal crown was placed upon my head as was for Atem. Seto then addressed the people.
"Citizens! I present your Pharaoh and Queen!" The crowds cheered as Atem took me by the waist and kissed me once more. It was like a fairy tale.
Atem POV
After a bit more dancing, (Y/N) and I settled into our chambers for the night. She kissed me as I was removing my jewelry.
"I can't believe I'm married to a pharaoh. I must be the luckiest woman alive!" I smiled before hugging her.
"I'm the lucky one. Lucky to have married a woman like you," I kissed the ring on her finger and dove in for her lips. She then slipped away with a mischievous look upon her face. I then notice how her dress was now falling off her shoulder as she turned for me, her movements enticing. I felt that predator reemerge as I took her into my arms, threw her over my shoulder, and carried her off to our bed.
Ok folks, hope you like it! Please remember I know very little about ancient Egyptian customs and marriages, so please don't hate me. Also, I want to her all forms of suggestions for my next book, wether it be characters, scenes, Yami's tactics, etc. See you next time!
