Max's POV

I let out a small sneeze as I trudged through the pouring rain. Most kids... heck, all kids would be inside, cuddling up with their families by a fireplace to keep them warm.

Not for me, Maximus (I hate that name...) the Dog. I have no family, no home, nothing. I'm a loner, since my family abandoned me, when I was a baby, at an orphanage. I hated that place. They didn't like me, the kids or the adults. Was it my deformation with my two tails? My odd eye color? Or was it that I seemed... crazy? Talking to myself and all.

Oh please, crazy doesn't fit it. Go more towards 'insane', then you got it!

Shut it. I'm trying to tell a story.

So, you probably heard of him already. He is called Daku. But people seem to refer to him as Dark Max, or just Dark. Or even 'Zero'. It's the nickname I gave him~!

Yeah, and I hate it, you little snot rag.

Now back to the story...!

At this moment, I'm a 5 year old.

I had been walking through a forest that resided by the town that I called 'home'. Note the obvious sarcasm.

My thoughts were cut off when I heard a growl from within the bushes, making me freeze up. Heheh... freeze up. Cuz I have ice powers- NO! Stop, Max! Pay attention! The thing that growled crept out of the bushes. It was terrifying! It had red eyes, practically all black and foggy-looking, long claws, and kinda walked like both an animal and a human. I could see its fangs, which looked like it could cut through bricks, through its growl.

"U-uh... um, hi?" Was all I said when it roared, making me scream like a little girl. The downs of being so young and feminine.

Apparently my scream attracted attention, because all I could see was pinkish-purple light around me as the forest rushed passed me at the speed of light. But it stopped and I saw a ticked off black and white cat. He sported blue jeans and some red and black headphones around his neck, while his ocean blue eyes were narrowed at me. I had opened my mouth to say something but he beat me to it.

"Are you stupid, or something?!" He exclaimed, throwing his hands in the air for emphasis, "You could've died!" I raised an eyebrow at him in confusion, which he knew why.

"Oh, I'm Sammy the Cat!" 'Sammy' said happily, "Nice to meet'ya!"

"I'm Max... the Dog?" I muttered, before looking back behind me, still seeing the small fog of pink. "Uh... what was that-"

"Weird pink glow?" Sammy interrupted, "That's my power: light!" I nearly laughed out loud, but held it in.

"Um... wh-... why pink?" I asked, letting out a small laugh. But I really had to stifle my laugh at his look.

"How am I supposed to know?!" He yelled, his face red in embarrassment, "I was born with it!"

"Heheh... yeah, sorry. I couldn't resist," I giggled, with a smile that I never wore in my life, "I have snow powers, if that makes it any better."

He crossed his arms and pouted. "Well, is it purple? 'Cuz that'd make it a whole lot better..." Sammy muttered, which made me grin evilly.

"No. But it can be yellow!"

Pause.

"WHAT?! EW! GROSS!"

And that began our long lasting relationship, surprisingly with how our meet ended... Maybe we were even brothers! But I didn't think I'd get more friends after him, which I did!

Ooh! I know who you're talking about! Heh heh!

Yep. It's Angel the Cat-Wolf Hybrid, her pet Rye. And--

Jinx the Rabbit.

Yeah, what he said... you jerk... you stole my thunder...

Oh shut it, you big cry baby.
