Chapter 2: Eden

River's face was pale, you'd think that the big bad River who had killed hundreds would be able to handle his wife giving birth to his children.

I give him a confused look, "Really?"

"What?" he asked, his voice breaking.

I laughed at him, placing a hand on his shoulder, "What are we going to name them?"

River's face got it's color back. "I don't know."

A nurse came in and said, "We need their names, please ma'am."

I looked at River. "Ryn, and Delilah."

River's eyes got real wide, but he didn't try to stop me. Then the nurse took the kids and walked away.

"Finally," River whispered, and scooted up next to me, nuzzling my neck.

I shivered, "What?"

He laughed, "It's been eight freaking months since I've had you to myself-"

"River, get away from my sister," Drex growled, "Eight months or not."

Caia showed at his side, whispering something in Drex's ear and then said louder, "Sorry, River. Drex... is a bit protective."

"Yeah, I've realized," Riv muttered, moving away from me. "One minute," River growled at Drexel.

"So what did you want?"

Drex glared at River as if I had never said a word. "Who made you the boss of my sister? She's my sister."

"Yeah, but you aren't the father of her kids, are you?"

River had just opened a bag of vipers, but before Drexel could kill River, Caia said, "Look, we came here to announce our child, not to fight."

Drex's face lit up as his hands went to Caia's stomach. "Sorry, I didn't mean to act like a jerk, just..." Drex quieted down.

"That's great, Caia! How many weeks?

"Actually..." She looks down, "A one day from my due date. That's why I'm here, actually."

I stared at her stomach in awe. "No freaking way!"

She shifted uncomfortably. "Yeah, anyway, me and this idiot gotta get going, eh Drex?"

He glared at River for a second and then nodded before taking off.

River grinned and slid even closer to me, his hands grabbing my waist. "Yay."

"River," I moaned, trying to stop him. "I'm tired, stop."

He looked into my eyes and kissed my knuckles, "Okay."

When I woke the next morning, River was gone. I screamed a blood curdling scream. River raced in the room. "Oh my god, Eden, what's wrong?"

I sighed. "Sorry, I didn't know where you were and I flipped, sorry."

He laughed coming closer to me, wrapping his arms around me and rubbing his thumb against the back of my hand. "My mom used to do that to me, it always calmed me down fast..."

I grinned. It wasn't often that he shared something from his past. "Thanks."

He gave me a weird look, this cute furrow of his brow. "What are you thanking me for?"

"You never talk about her, not since she split with your father."

His eyes grew dark for a second and then he smiled as if remembering something happy. "Hey, Caia is in labor-"
