An Ode to Too Sweet Hot Chocolate

I have no interest in artificial.

When it comes to sugar.

Feel free to stuff my processed hamburger with tomatoes on the side

With pesticides

And goo to be crafted into meat.

That is laid in an oven three weeks before I actually come to buy it..

Go ahead, color my cereal with emotions I don't feel in the morning.

I'll watch them sink under milk, and soften in the white-ness

Hot chocolates should be a rich dark brown.

A sweet coffee that puts you to sleep.

But shoveling in one too many spoons of sugar is the real treat.

Stirring it's insides until they're dark turns to light.

A sticky liquid to secretly enjoy alone at night.

Ignoring the numbing of my tongue.

I'll keep drinking 'till I OD on pellets of white

I scrape from the cup's base.

Everything will kneel to the sugary stains.

Including my heart, I'm sure, one day.

But this short term delight, born from a mistake,

I'll sip to night's end,

Alone,

Sweet and unafraid.
