Chapter 9~
Unforgivable Part 2
[Kirk]
Crap.
I saw the announcer whisper something into Anna's ear. The look on her face held so much pain. I felt a huge pang of guilt.
As she walked over to the U.S.S Enterprise area, she didn't even look at me. She sat down with some other new recruits.
After a few more people got through, the ceremony was over. Tomorrow is the big day. It's where the jobs on the ship are walked through and identified. I knew exactly where Anna's post will be, and when she finds out it won't be pretty. After all the crying parents and pictures I found Anna and we headed home.
Not a word was spoken.
Since a driver was driving us, we both were in the back. Making it even more awkward. We would've taken my car, but I had to keep it at the academy. Rules, gotta love 'em.
I knew she was depressed. Her eyes were sunken in, and she lost all the 'joy' she had this morning (even when she shot my bed). She was looking out the window. Of course it was raining outside, which made the mood even darker.
I was going to break the ice a little bit, but she got there first.
"Why didn't you tell me?" She asked calmly, still looking out the window. Her voice was cracking, and it was obvious she was struggling to keep her composure.
"I'm sorry Anna, I just couldn't find a way to tell you." I said looking at her. She still kept her gaze out the window. She looked down at her hands, and sighed. She turned towards me. Her eyes were bloodshot like she has been silently crying. Dried tears were on her cheeks, and she looked devastated.
"Is it that hard to tell your own sister that someone close to our hearts died?! Is it really that hard *James! You could've just told me!" She said finally bursting to tears. There was so much pain in her eyes that it pained me. She was right, I was an idiot and a total jerk for not telling her. I held my arms out.
"Come here. Anna, I'm sorry for everything. I'm sorry for not being there for you, I'm sorry for leaving you with *him, I'm sorry for disappearing off the face of the earth...literally." I said trying to lighten up the mood. She smiled slightly and gave me the biggest hug I have ever received.
"Will we be okay without Admiral Pike?" She asked when we got dropped off in front of my apartment building. The rain was pouring down now, and we were using our jackets as "umbrellas". I thought about that question. Will we be okay without him? We only have each other now and Admiral isn't here...
"I think we'll do alright." I said draping my arm over her shoulder. She did the same, and we walked into the building.
The Next Morning---------
BEEP! BEEP! BEEP!
My alarm immediately woke me up, and my floor bid me a good morning. There's going to be a bad bruise popping up soon. I sighed, surprisingly I didn't sleep through my alarm.
Maybe you don't want to be shot at by your baby sister again. Speaking of shooting at things...
I looked at the hole in my bed, surprisingly I slept pretty well on it. It was too late into the night to go out and order a brand new bed. I shrugged and got myself ready for today.
As the Captain, It was my job to go through all the jobs with my new cadets. Luckily I had my old crew back, and not that many new posts. Plus, Spock usually likes to take over.
We put our unicorns on in the ship, so I just dressed in some casual clothes. When I was ready, I walked out of my room. I was expecting Anna to be at the table with her mouth stuffed with old fashioned breakfast foods that I buy. Like bacon, cereal, this thing called OJ, etc. Instead of Anna I saw an empty chair. Oh, come on! We're going to be late.
This day is when the Captain isn't supposed to be late! I quickly but quietly knocked and entered Anna's room. There she was, sprawled out on her bed. You have got to be kidding me! Or, this is the perfect chance for payback. I smirked, and quietly exited the room.
I walked back to the kitchen to get my gun out of my jacket. I quickly grabbed it and ran back to her room. This was going to be the highlight of my day. When I opened her door slowly, i looked in and no one was there.
What? She was here exactly ten seconds ago! Someone can't be that quick and quiet. I put my gun in my pocket and looked around. Where would she hide? There's really no real place to hide. Then I realized what happened.
"AHHHHHHHH!" Was what I heard. Then something came crashing down on me. Then we landed with an oof. She had me in a headlock. She wasn't a weakling either.
"Well, Good Morning my dearest brother." She said happily. Still having me in a headlock. It wasn't serious, I know she was joking but she still had an iron grip. I muffled a good morning and she let me go.
She was fully dressed and ready to go.
"But...but..., ugh never mind let's just go." I said rubbing my neck. She laughed, and I smiled. At least we were back on good terms. We locked up. I told the doorman I'll be gone for a while, and he nodded. He was used to me leaving for long periods of time. He understood being a StarFleet captain has it's difficulties. We called for a taxi, and we were on our way.
