One Week Later
I smile at Celeste, and look at all the girls that are sitting at my lunch table. I don't go to a normal school, because I am a Society member. All the kids in my school have companions. Ruby, who has wavy blond hair with a pink streak and blue eyes, is a frost wolf companion. Savannah, who is tall with dark, curly hair and brown eyes is a great tiger companion. Gretchen, a girl with long dirty blond hair, is a penguin companion. All the girls frown as I tell them about what happens at the forest. We had had a week's break, so they only knew I was hurt, and none of the details.I look over at the boy's table. They are sitting, listening to something Griffin is saying. I think, He must be talking about what happened. Hopefully. Some of the boys were listening, and some weren't. Matthew, a pale boy with blond- grey hair, who is a vampire companion, was sipping on a cup of something that looked suspiciously like blood. I shudder. The thought disgusts me. The others boys' companion species aren't very important. There is one phoenix companion, who's name is Max. Maxwell, a boy who's companion species is a giant turtle, is talking to him. I strain to hear a little of their conversation.
Max says, " Can you believe what Griffin is saying? I don't believe it. " Maxwell nods and says, " No way Sophie would sacrifice her life for trees. She loves living too much." They snicker. It takes all my self restraint to not march over there and tell them what I think about them. I can't stop myselt
The bell rings, and it is time to go to my 6th period class.
