Chapter Twenty-One

   Two guards stood within the shadows of the tree line, watching as Jasmine begged for her lover to wake up," I-I guess our job is finished..." The timid guard whispered to his scar-faced partner, a hint of guilt in his voice while his eyes showed sympathy for his former princess.

Mister Scar-Face nodded, a sick smile plastered onto his face," Yeah. And good riddance!" he replied back, his partner looking at him in shock; even being this guy's partner, he too questions how he got into 'heaven'.

" D-Don't you feel...any sympathy for her? S-She just lost the love of her life and-"

" Shut up will you." The scar-faced guard growled, causing his partner to flinch in fear," He's just another demon. Who cares?"

" She does..." The timid guard mumbled underneath his breath as his gaze traveled back to Jasmine," S-So...are we just,,,going to leave her here?"

" Of course. She was going to be sent here anyways. Why deal with the hassle of bringing her back?" The scar-faced guard question while his partner stayed silent," She'll die of blood loss by the time we get back, and the demons will get her anyways so..."

The timid guard shuddered; just imagining what the demons will do to her made his skin crawl," Welp! Let's get going." The scar-faced guard stated, turning his back on the sad scene. The timid guard stood still, as if unsure he wanted to leave," Well? Get your as- I mean, butt moving."

The timid guard looked back at the crying Jasmine one last time before walking away, the pit of guilt never leaving him.

As the guards flew back towards the kingdom, Jasmine remained on her knees crying as Maroon laid motionless on the ground snow-covered ground. Her voice was raw and tired from all of her crying, but she kept on, crying a begging for Maroon to return," P....Please....I-I beg of you...w-wake up..." Jasmine begged over and over, resting her head on Maroon's chest," D...Don't leave me..."

She continued to let out broken sobs till she felt something pet her hair ever so gently. Her head shot up, and met eyes with someone she never thought she see again," M...Maroon...?"

" Hey princess." Maroon smiled, only...it wasn't Maroon. It was some sort of...entity. Like Maroon's soul or spirit. He glowed red, and you could see right through him as he floated on the other side of his body. He looked as if nothing had ever happened to him.

More tears flooded into Jasmine's eyes as she clasped her hands over her mouth, letting out more sobs," Princess...please don't cry..." Maroon said, placing his hand on Jasmine's cheek," I'm right here..."

" M...Maroon...p-please...don't go yet..." Jasmine begged, trying to reach out the Maroon, but her hand went right through him," I..I c-can't do this a-alone..."

" Shhh...everything will be alright. Rose will look out for you." Maroon replied, smiling softly at me," I know it might seem like it, but she really is a kind, and sweet person."

I continued to let out soft cries as Maroon continued," I'm sorry I won't be able to protect you anymore...."

Jasmine shook her head as more tears streamed down her face," P...Please...d-don't say that...y-you promised..." she cried, still holding onto Maroon's cold hand," Y...You s-said you wouldn't leave me...."

" I'm sorry Jasmine...but I have to go." Maroon replied, his gaze trailing away from Jasmine's.

Jasmine choked on her own sobs," P...Please...d-don't leave me alone Maroon..." she begged.

Maroon let out a dry laugh," I could never leave you love. How could I when I'm right here," he began, pointing to Jasmine's heart with a small smile," and here as well." he placed his hand over my flat stomach.

" There is apart of me that will always be with you Jasmine. You will never lose me." Maroon stated, smiling sadly at me as his spiritual form began to flicker

" M...Maroon...? W-What's-"

" I'm running out of time. I won't b-b-b-be to hold this form much longer..." Maroon quickly replied, his form flickering even more.

" N-No...d..don't go yet..." I begged as more tears streamed down my face. Maroon looked away, shaking his head," P...Please...d-don't leave me..."

He faced me, giving me a weak smile," What d-d-did I say?" Maroon asked as he leaned over, placing a ghost-like kiss on my lips before pulling away, his hand cupping my face," I could never leave you. I-I-I will alway be with you."

His form flicker even more, and a scared expression came across Maroon's face," Jasmine. I love-" and just like that, his spiritual form vanished.

Jasmine sat there, shock while tears creased her cheeks," M...Maroon...?" Jasmine called out, hoping for a reply, but never got one. She began to slightly sob to herself as she clutched Maroon cold hand. But she suddenly felt a change in the weight of his hand. She looked down and saw Maroon's hand slowly disintegrating into black ashes," W...What..? N-No...No!"

Jasmine watched as Maroon's body slowly disintegrated, his black ashes floating away," N-No! P-Please!" Jasmine cried as she tried to grab ahold of his ashes, but they slipped right through her fingers," No!"

Within a minute, Maroon's body had completely vanished. Jasmine cried, and cried, and cried, begging for her lover to return. It was silent, the only sound being from Jasmine's sobs," N...No...c-come back..." she begged, laying her head on the snow where Maroon's body had been. And to her surprise, she felt something gaze her head. Her head shot up, hoping to see Maroon again, but only found a black feather laying in the snow.

Tears swelled in Jasmine's eyes as she reached out and picked the feather up, twirling it around in her hand. Then reality struck; Maroon is really gone. This feather was proof. The news made Jasmine's heart shatter.

She let out the most horrid scream before she fell to the ground. Jasmine's world began to spin as her strength slowly drained from her body. She clutched Maroon's feather close to her chest as she waited for death to consume her.
