"I'm coming home soon so I'll see you then!" Lydia smiled, putting her phone on speaker and continuing to do her makeup.
"How is college by the way?" Malia asked, delighted to finally be talking to her best friend.
"Yeah it's good," the door to Lydia's dorm opened, "I've got to go Malia, I'll text you later."

Malia woke up and rolled over to find an empty space. Stiles wasn't there and there was no sign that he'd been there all night.

"What the f-" Malia grumbled, throwing back the bed covers and jumping out of bed. "Stiles!" She yelled when she was out on the landing.

Malia crept along to Mackenzie's room but she wasn't there either. She instantly went into panic, presuming Stiles had left after promising he'd never give up on her.

She ran downstairs just to check if her suspicions were true.

No one was in the living room, kitchen or backyard. "Stiles! Mackenzie!" Malia yelled.

It wasn't like Malia to have a panic attack, and she didn't really know what it felt like, but what she was feeling right now seemed very close to one.

She grabbed her phone from the counter and clicked on Scott's contact number.

"Scott? Stiles left me," Malia blurted out.

"What?" Scott panicked too, "why do you think that?"

"Because no one is here! I'm alone and Stiles never woke me up to tell me where he was going."

"Well is his stuff gone from the closet?" Scott questioned.

"I haven't checked," Malia felt foolish.

"Okay... Well go check that and just calm down. He will be back," Scott said his goodbyes then hung up.

Malia breathed in then did as Scott suggested. Everything was still in place, in both Mackenzie and Stiles' closets so she finally relaxed.

The front door clicked open and she straight away heard Mackenzie's excited voice, telling a story to Stiles at a hundred miles an hour.

"Thank god you came back," Malia sighed, embracing Mackenzie in a hug.

"Why wouldn't we be back?" Stiles asked.

Malia noticed something which broke her heart just a little. After Mackenzie had pulled away from her mother's embrace, she grabbed onto Stiles' hand like she was still scared of Malia.

Stiles unlocked his hand from hers and subtly forced Mackenzie to be comfortable in Malia's presence.

"Please don't be scared of me, baby," Malia pleaded with Mackenzie.

"I'm not," Mackenzie smiled, walking past Malia and running up to her room.

They still hadn't properly addressed what had happened the day before. Mackenzie was too young to have a mature conversation, and as Malia had proved, would run away if things got awkward for her.

"She is," Malia sighed and trudged back through to the kitchen.

Stiles followed after her. "No she isn't," he dumped the front door keys on the counter, "why did you say; 'thank god you came back?'"
