When I woke once more, the house was beginning to collapse. I ran as fast as I could and didn't look back. The wind whipped me against a wall, and I hit my head on the wood. With a groan, I shuffled into a sitting position and stood up. My head pounded. The sound of the wind became a delicate whisper with the percussion of my headache. I scurried outside the house, walking like a cat on stilts. When I made it outside, I turned around. The storm had completely destroyed my house. My family was gone.

I turned back around, running to the house and sifting through the rubble.  The cracked concrete, pieces of marred wood, and various piles of dirt were all that remained.  No.  They couldn't be gone.  They could have gotten away.  Of course, I didn't really believe that.

I looked up to the sky, which seemed to be ripping. Like paper, it peeled back, revealing dark oblivion. I gasped, running the other way as the rip came closer and closer to where I was. The world was ending. It had to be.
"Wait!" I heard behind me. I turned around, squinting at a figure approaching my house.
I sighed, running back. "It's not safe here!" I yelled. "I'm going to find somewhere safe."

She pushed her hair behind her ear. "Nowhere is safe," she murmured. "Not anymore, anyway. What's your name?"

"Jasper," I said, my lungs feeling as if they could cave in.  "I have to go."

"Wait," she grabbed my arm. "Let me come with you. I know somewhere... It might be safe."

"Alright..." I said. "Come on, we don't have much time." I began running towards the mountains, and I never looked back to see if she was behind me.
