Sandra woke up tied to a chair. Her eyes snapped open and she smelled a smell that was pungent and horrible that she felt bile rose up in her throat. She looked around with wide blue eyes, head whipping this way and that. Her heart rate climbed and climbed until she thought she would have a heart attack. Sandra's breathing was laborious and too deep.

"Calm down, princess." A male voice laughed. "I don't want you dying before I get my penny's worth from you." Her head swiveled so quickly that her long black hair struck her in the face. The silhouette was barely perceivable in the gloom. A whimper came from her throat, muffled by the gag in her mouth. The man approached with long strides, a glittering silver knife in one hand. Sandra struggled against her bonds, trying to will them to loosen. A desperate sob broke from her chest when he finally reached her. The knife was placed under her chin and her head was tilted up to avoid getting cut.

"Please let me go." Sandra cried. She felt as though her entire would start to seize and convulse due to her trembling. His eyes were revealed by holes cut into his black mask. They were black and deep. Bottomless, maybe.

"Listen here, babygirl. Nothing bad is gonna happen to you if your parent just pay the ransom." He paused before adding. "Unless, of course, I decide otherwise." The knife trailed away from her throat and down her side. Another sob racked her body and she struggled again. A sharp flash of pain filled the side of her face as he struck her. He grabbed her by her jaw and forced her to look at him. Her eyes were blurred with tears and she could barely make out the details of his face. He held a lighter in front her face, unlit. That's when that horrendous smell became known.

Gasoline.

A scream escaped her, but she stopped her struggling. Sandra had never felt fear in such pure a form before.

"That's what I thought..." The man snarled like a wolf. He vanished off into the gloom without another word.
