My dad came home asking for cough drops because he could feel a sore throat coming on. I gave him a bag of lozenges and then we all proceeded to go about our evening. Around 11 I decided I was going to a back bend on my own. After many failed attempts I did a back bend, and then tried again and did another. I opened my bedroom door to tell my parents and was surprised that they were awake. I'd assumed everyone was asleep, but was hoping otherwise. I got my mother but was too nervous to show her in her room (its very cluttered), so she suggested that we go to mine. I went to my room and did the back bend. She was still climbing out of bed though, so I'm shouting, "Mom! I'm doing it!....Mom! Come quick!" She gets there and sees me, and then I let myself down. My dad comes in after I've been down for a few seconds. He thought I'd hurt myself but my mother tells him what I did, and encourages my to go into the back bend again.

I'm preparing myself and telling my nerves to stop, that I've done this before. My dad isn't helping with his 'don't fart' comments and other jokes. For the fourth time I do a back bend and by now my back is very sore. My parents disperse as I lay on the floor. My dad wanders into the bathroom across the hall and opens the medicine cabinet. He's asking for cough syrup so I go over to help him because I know what's in there. I point out the bottle of cough syrup and Dad pulls it down and looks at the expiration date.

"Oh, look! Its two years old!" my dad says, sounding not the least bit surprised. I take a look at the label and see that it expired  in February 2013.

"Its only a year old," I tell him. He heads towards the living room as I dump out the cough syrup and rinse the sink. Dad comes back in and starts rifling through the pills I have in the cabinet. He finds NyQuil and a generic night time cold and flu medicine. The generic one has only a single pill inside so we decide that he should take one NyQuil and one of the generic. The two pills are practically identical after all. I follow Dad into the kitchen.

"For some reason I really want icecream right now," Dad says. Hint, hint.

"Yeah, well I wanted icecream four hours ago," I respond.

"So what are you saying?''

"I'm saying that I will have icecream if somebody serves it to me in a small cup."

"You should be serving me; I'm sick," Dad says to me.

"Then you shouldn't be having icecream," I reply. I leave the room as Dad gets himself a glass of water. I come back in a minute later to see my dad making a weird face.

"I wasn't supposed to chew those, was I?" he asks me. I'm kind of shocked so all that I say is, "no".

Dad smiles and I realize that he's kidding. He hugs me and starts talking about a tv show we've been watching on Netflix.
