Chapter Two
How to Develop a Conceived Idea into a Book
It is one thing to conceive the idea of what to write, and another thing to develop the idea into a book. There are people who have conceived wonderful and interesting ideas of what to write, but they are faced with the challenges of how to develop these wonderful and interesting ideas into books. Here, we will discuss briefly how one can develop his/her ideas into a book worthy of reading and enjoying.Every book or story are written from the true life perspective of events, even if the book or story is fiction. That is, books are written as though the events in it are real or from true life account even when the events in the books are not real or did not occur in the real world event. When one conceives in his/her mind the idea of what to write, one of the best ways of developing the idea into a book is to create in one's mind for the book, environments, characters, factors, settings, styles, dialogues, monologues, problems and if possible solutions, etc., from real life perspective or the way it ought to be if it were in real life.
For example, as a teacher, lecturer, pastor or any other persons that want to write book on any subject, discipline or course, what such a person needs to do is to create in his/her mind and for the book, classroom and position him/herself as a teacher teaching, again create in your mind students listening to acquire knowledge from you. In writing, the writer is playing the role of a teacher with pen and paper, hence, a writer should write in the same way he/she will teach and explain issues to his/her students if it were to be life or from through life account. This teaching in writing should also involves the use of good examples, illustrations and painting pictures for the understanding of students the way a teacher should do it life in a classroom. This is to ensure that the person's readers who is his/her imagined students will understand the book properly. Also, the writer should know that in real life, students will react to the teaching of their teacher, this reaction is mostly asking questions for clarification of the areas beyond their comprehension or understanding, mostly on vocabularies used, terminologies and other difficult issues handled in the class. As such and as a writer, in writing make those clarification in your write-ups by assuming in your mind that your readers have asked the questions already. With this assumption therefore, write and explain those supposed but unstated questions in your book in details and with simple and vivid words for the proper understanding of the readers. And this will as a matter of fact, make one's book interesting and good to go. This is one of the vital ways of developing one's idea into a powerful and wonderful book that people would like to buy and read.
Another similar way of developing idea into book is that, may be, the topic one wants to write on, he/she had found it difficult in the past, may be because, he/she did not see any textbook that explains it to his/her understanding or he/she did not meet with a lecturer who explained it well to his/her understanding, and later, one on his/her own was able to understand the course or topic. The person should realise that there are people or students who are presently finding the topic or topics difficult the same way he/she found it difficult, what the person should do is to write on that topic and apply the principles and methods he/she applied that made him/her understood the topic him/herself. Use that same or even better formula to write on that topic, using every examples, illustrations and explanations possible, which will enable readers understand the topic properly the way the writer did or even more than the writer did, that will make the author's book on that particular topic the best, talk of the market and the best seller of all time, as long as readers or students are concern.
In the case of developing an idea on story books like prose or drama, one need to use the method of way or ways events will happen or occur in the real life. For instance, when one is writing a story book it should be noted that the book should have or be given by the writer a beginning, middle and end (conclusion) just the way events will be in real life. Let's say Nwoko is writing a story book on "Obi the Rich Orphan". What the writer should know here is that in real life, Obi should first of all have parents who gave birth to him before they died and left Obi an Orphan. Hence, the writer should give Obi parents as it will be in real life, then, create story that tells how and when they died and what led to their death. Second, the writer should know that Obi as an orphan must suffer as orphan he is since he had no parents who cared for him during his childhood till his grown up stage. And as such he must have worked very hard for many years and met with God's favour and people's connection before he becomes rich or wealthy, if it were to be in real life event. Therefore, the writer should give Obi in the story tough, hard and suffering experience in life in his cause of growing in life. Then to promote morals and need of good success, give Obi good attitude or behavior which he exhibited or lived in that led him to the favour he met with that elevated him to a rich or wealthy man. Tell how it all happened to give the book volume and body of stories and third, the writer can end or conclude the story by telling how Obi finally or later married a good, nice and beautiful wife and how God gave them loving children who loved and respected their parents and others and also, how Obi helped other people and finally live happily with his family ever after. With this, one can make a very interesting and lesson passing novel or story book.
Mastering words and its usage will also help a writer or one who wants to be a writer to know the words to use and how to use the words to develop into book the idea he/she conceived. As we will see later in the challenges facing writing books, there are people who have ideas of what to write, but they are faced with the lack of words and its usage to use and put down the ideas into books.
Hence, a writer needs to be friend with good and comprehensive dictionary that can explain the meaning and usage of words to its simplicity. When one learns and master's words and its usage, he/she will not run short of words to use to communicate his/her readers in his/her book. Therefore, learning, knowing words, its meaning and usage are another vital ways of developing the idea one has into a book or books. These ways mentioned above and more unmentioned are the practical possible ways to conceive ideas of what to write and also how to develop the ideas into written books.
All these are the practical facts on how to conceive the idea or ideas of what to write and how to develop the ideas into written books. However, I have to be more practical and truthful to inform my readers in this book that mine is more of the Grace of God, the hand and wisdom of Christ on me through the power of the Holy Spirit of God. This is not superstition or spiritualizing the issues, not at all, but this is the honest truth.
