The Reservers Chapter 7, a romance fiction |
I didn't mention the encounter with The Reservers to my brothers. I wasn't sure why. When I made it home, I told Jared that the project took longer than I expected. He seemed to buy it until he spotted the swimsuit I had scrunched up in my hands. I told him that Dana gave it to me.
He let it go and eventually forgot about it, or so I thought.
The rest of the weekend was spent unpacking everything I hadn't gotten the chance to during the week. My homework was done and my room was painted to a light blue color that I wanted with the help of my brothers. I was doing a good job of ignoring my encounter with the Reservers that weekend, especially the exchange of words between Samuel Calloway and I.
I was doing well on pretending that nothing had happened until I received an unexpected text Sunday night while getting ready for bed.
"We know the truth, Leah."
I spent several minutes staring at those words. The number that sent it was unknown but I had an idea as to who it was from. I didn't understand though. What did they want from me? What had I done to them? Was it because I said no to Rachel and Beverly? They were obviously trying to scare me but why?
I finally realized I wasn't going to get any answer staring at the text and asking myself why, but I knew who exactly I could talk to about it.
I sent Jacky a text the next morning and asked her to meet me before the bell. Walking to the entrance from our new parking spot was a bit of a distance, and as always I couldn't help but notice The Reservers' parking spot car-less and waiting for their fancy vehicles to arrive. We left Jared at home sleeping in since he was serving his suspension, but I was sure mom had something productive planned for him to do during the day.
Once Wade and I walked inside the building, I separated from him and went on my search for Jacky.
She was already waiting for me by my locker and there was an almost knowing look on her face, as if she knew exactly what I wanted to talk to her about.
She gave me a slight smile. "Hey,"
"Hi," I said back before deciding to get straight to the point. "Look, last week your brother and his friends asked me to become a part of them and I said no. On Saturday I somehow ended up at the Calloway's and some things aren't adding up."
Jacky didn't look surprised. She just waited a minute before speaking. "What's not adding up?" She asked calmly.
"Well, for one why Rachel is suddenly acting nice to me when she's supposedly a bitch, and Jensen apologized although you said he was unforgiving and then Samuel..." I stopped, not sure I wanted to mention that part but Jacky wasn't going to let me stop there.
"What did Sam do?" She asked and I noticed her face harden. Apparently I wasn't the only one who disliked the guy.
"He just...he acted as if he hates me and I don't understand why."
"What else happened?" Jacky asked, her voice sounded a bit frantic.
"Well, I received a mysterious text last night and I think it's from them." I told her and her eyes widened. "What do they want with me?" I finally asked her.
"They're testing you." She simply said.
"What?" I blinked.
"There's a lot you don't know about, Leah. Just...don't trust them. Whatever they say, whatever they do, don't let it get to you." She advised.
"But why me? I don't understand." I told her hoping she could give me something that would make me understand why these Reservers had me on their radar.
