“Please! Leave her alone!” I struggled fruitlessly against my holders, watching the horrors unfold before me.
“She’s my sister! Please!” My pleads fell on death ears, mockingly echoing in the dense forest around us with only the moon illuminating the scene. But even with the full moon I heard rather than saw the scene just yards from me.
“Raymond! Dayne! You promised me you’d protect her!” I was using every method I could to at least get the two vamps to look at me. If not for my sake, fight for hers. She didn’t deserve this, pitted against the dogs of the Council when she wasn’t even fully turned. Abandoned like a stray dog with a hunger for human blood. I paused to catch my breath, feeling the sting of the forming bruises; they must have been really pissed off when they found us in the cabin.
I could hear the animal viciousness with which the two immortals came at each other, the tearing of flesh and the distinctive smell of vampire blood in the still air.
“She’s just a kid.” I had no doubt that they heard me, all 5 of them but for the longest while the silence they left was filled only with the sounds of Jen’s animalistic screeches as Caden slowly ripped her to pieces under the orders of the Council.
“Wouldn’t it be kinder on them to get this over with Sir?” I held my breath, feeling the hollowness at the sound of Raymond’s voice not far off.
Please.
Just please.
“Kind? What are you talking about? Kind would have been reporting it to the Council as soon as it was discovered. Kind would have been starvation. This child is the reason for this, and it’s your fault as much as his Raymond.” Caden was a ruthless bastard, following Xato’s orders to the letter, this was one of them.
It was quiet from then on.
Growls.
Screeches.
Shrieks and endless echos. I didn’t know how long I would be able to last like this. Focusing on my hardened breaths I counted how long this torture was going to lasting.

The moon was long past us when her body finally gave out at my feet, crumbling on itself, no longer able to stand upright with the thirst and injuries coursing through her quivering frame. Her black hair filled with dirt and branches, her clothes torn, leaving her bloody flesh exposed. Her feral expression turning almost human with fear and desperation, red eyes darting to mine pleadingly.
I wanted to move, God knows I did. To help her again, but this time it was impossible with 2 vampires restraining my beat body and an extra 3 to end her existence. There was nothing I could do but watch as he killed her in front of me.
“Cato….” She growled out as my heart shattered.
“Cato… help.” I was numb as she clawed forward towards me, only to be kicked back by one of my holders. Straight into the lion’s mouth, as Caden took a sharp swing. I watched the world the world tilt slightly, facing the blurry sky; only to realize my legs had finally given out and the blurriness were tears streaming down my face. This was new, I hadn’t cried since I was a kid, getting the news at Christmas that our parents won’t be making it home this week… Or ever.
I was… quite cold. I was tired. Cold and tired, that’s right. A rough hand grasped me by the hair, forcing me to face something. I couldn’t hear what they were saying through the high pitched noise in my ears, but as my eyes focused on the object dangling in front of me I recognised its familiarity.
Pink lips pulled apart, grey eyes frozen in horror, black hair mattered with dirt and a crude, jagged line that separated Jen’s bloody head from the rest of her battered body. The image seared itself into my mind before my eyes simply closed; welcoming the darkness.
