Jornea steadily recovered from the Phaser venom, though she kept getting distracted as random body parts went numb. Yggdrasil predicted that would fade too. In the meantime, Tava refused to give up her seat in the pilots chair. Jornea was sitting next to her, pouting in the co-pilot seat as she idly went through the Nav computer and periodically making corrections to course when she thought Tava wasn't paying attention.
Tava sighed and shoved her eye patch out of the way, using her prosthetic eye to glare at Jornea. The woman blinked in surprise, then slowly drew her hand away from the control to resume playing with navigation charts. Tava smirked, already liking having her full senior officer glare back.
"How about we make a stop here?"
Tava glanced at the Nav computer, looking at the system Jornea was pointing out. "What makes that system so special?"
Jornea shrugged, propping her chin in her hand. "Computer says the resident species is just learning space travel. They've never been a part of any larger organization of species besides their own."
"Sounds like easy pickings then."
Tava glanced across the bridge at Quorra. His clawed fingers skipped across his panel and another handheld device he had brought along. If Tava didn't know better, she'd say the Quetzel was coding something. Then again, he might be. She just hoped it wasn't something dangerous like a self-destruct protocol or something. "Probably. Assuming they're open to xeno affiliation and mergers."
Tava caught Kartk's eyes narrowing as he contemplated the wording she had used but it was Jornea that groaned. "Speak plain common."
"They might not want to join up with a bunch of aliens."
"There! Was that really so much more complicated to say?!"
Tava chuckled. "It's worth a shot anyways. How far is it?"
Jornea enlarged the map, plotting course and checking for any known dangers or warnings of frequent pirate sightings. "Couple days. Easy ride. Assuming things don't take a strange turn."
Kartk grumbled. "Don't jinx it."
"Jinx?"
Tava glanced at Jornea questioningly. "When was the last time something went numb?"
Jornea perked up in excitement. "Not for a while." She eyed the controls with barely tempered desire. She grinned when Tava nodded and got up, handing over Athena. Jornea scrambled into the pilot's seat and wiggled happily as she settled in. Tava chuckled at the enthusiasm.
"Just take it easy and call us if there's any issue." She shook her head when the pilot lovingly stroked the controls, turning to go work on making something to eat. Quorra shut down what he was working on and followed her.
"I think I'll get some rest."
"You want anything to eat first?"
"No. I ate last week."
Tava blinked after the winged snake as he slithered off down a corridor, then shook her head and continued down to the galley. She supposed it was a good thing Yggdrasil and Quorra were so easy to feed. It was just strange.
A little while later she had food ready and commed across the ship to tell everyone it was ready. Kit and Kartk showed up, looking ravenous. Yggdrasil appeared a little later to pour himself a glass of water and join them at the table. He glanced around with apparent satisfaction before turning to Tava.
"Jornea's condition has improved?" He went a light shade of green when Tava nodded. "It appears everyone else is in an adequate state of health. Quorra informed me he was mildly sleep deprived on his way towards the cargo bay, however I didn't question him on why he was not headed for his quarters."
