Lying Lovers & Lovely Strangers

"I just wish I was as sure of everything as you are." - Nora Jean Benson.

LUKE

On my way home back from work at the coffee shop, I was busy admiring the golden setting sun over the horizon down my street when I see the moving trucks outside my apartment building. I figured my new neighbor has just moved in. That was when I see a girl carrying a box from the back of the trunk.

"Do you need some help?"I asked, startling her.

"Shit, you scared me." She turned around. She was a really well put together brunette, pretty too, but she wasn't the girl I met on the balcony yesterday night.

"Hi, sorry. I live here too and I'm going up anyway." I say with a small smile as she looked at me, probably assessing stranger danger.

"Oh, I'd love your help. Thank you so much." She said relieved as she picked up a box to hand over to me.

"I'm Amanda by the way." She said carrying another box herself.

"I'm Luke." I say walking inside.

"So you've just moved in?"

"Oh no, I'm just helping out a friend." She said, walking up behind me, the wafts of her lavender perfume smelling nice.

"Ah, that's nice of you." Was all I said, before she started being real chatty.

"Yeah, she was actually my roommate but now she got this apartment and wait- do you go to UCLA too?" She asked sizing me up as we enter the elevator.

I nodded.

"Cool! Me too. I haven't seen you around though." She said, as I wait for her to press the elevator button. It was a pretty big university with thousands of kids so I don't know why she said that.

"Which floor?"

"Oh, 2nd." She says, as I push the button.

"As I was saying, what's your major?" She inquired rather nosily. I hated talking about college.

"Modern Literature."

"No way! Me too." She says as if it's an unbelievable feat. "Crazy how I've never seen you before."

I gave her a small smile, knowing it's just because I rarely attend my classes.

The elevator door opened and Amanda seemed more interested in chatting rather than moving this stuff. I wouldn't have mind if it wasn't for this weight on my hands.

"You probably don't get out much." She snickered stepping off slowly.

"Maybe." I say scared if she asks me to carry another box.

"You should totally come to our sorority party tonight. We have a lot of fellow Lit majors." She says walking towards my apartment.
Sorority girl, made total sense.

"I'd love to but I have a gig to play tonight so I'm probably not going to make it."As soon as I said that, she stopped, turned around and looked at me.

"Really? Where?"her face lit up.

"At The Clove."I said, as the weight was baring down on my blatantly weak arms.

"Oh cool,"she turned back around, "You can still come after. Our parties rage on for hours. What time's your gig?" She asked.

I was surprised, but answered, "Around 10."
