"Do you believe in ghost?"
To the sound of those words Austin slowly opened his eyes to see Nia, Jordan and Isaac kneeling by his bed side. It must have been around 1 in the morning. Austin's room was dark except for a dim blue light the shun from his alarm clock. "I believe in hellos and knocking, but ghost not so much."
"Perfect, then you and Jordan can be the non-believer's." Nia said with excitement as she stood up and grabbed a backpack off the floor.
"Wait, wait ,wait, how did you get into my house?" Austin asked sitting up and cleaning the sleep out his eyes.
"Isaac has a spare key, duh," replied Jordan. "But that's not whats important right now. Right now its important that you get up and get dressed." Jordan said standing up and facing the wall. In the corner Isaac laughed softly.
"What is she doing?" Austin asked confused.
"Oh it's alright, Isaac told us about how you have to sleep naked," explained Jordan from the wall. Next to her was Nia who stood arms crossed and staring at Austin. Austin whipped off the covers to show his long leg covered neatly by pajama pants, Nia's face showed a small sign of disappointment.
"You can look," said Austin as he got and pulled a shirt over his head.
Jordan turned around slowly and continued to explain, "We found a Ouija board, we wanted to go some wear and summon the dead."
"But," chimed in Nia, "if we are going to summon the dead we have to go some place where dead things are."
"We are going to the cemetery." Stated Isaac.
"Yea," said Nia who was clearly excited about the idea. "I googled it," Nia continued as she walked out of the house and lead the gang to her car, "we have white candles in the car and a necklace from Jordan's dead grandma." Jordan rolled her eyes at the idea.
The gang walked out the front door, and Isaac drifted to the back to talk with Austin. "I take back what I said about the girls."
"What made you change your mind?"
"Talking with Jordan." Isaac said blandly.
"Woah!" Austin made a face of sarcastic surprise. "You had like a real conversation?"
"Yea," Isaac laughed. "She's really cool actually. We talked about anxiety and shit like that."
"Sounds cool. I'll let you sit in the back with her." Austin said running around the car to get in the front with Nia.
During the car ride the back seat was filled with sparks. Isaac and Jordan talked the whole way, and seemed to be really hitting it off. The front seat was almost the same. Austin and Nia joked about the lovers in the back seat.
Nia parked the car across the street from the cemetery. The front gate was cracked open and a low fog covered the ground and left the gang with and eerie feeling. With a big smile on her face Nia opened the door, "Lets go."
The gang walked until the reached a patch of dying grass marked with a lack of head stones. "This spot is perfect!" Nia dropped to her knees and set up the bored, she set the candles in a circle around the board and lit them with her lighter.
"Everyone sit on your knees and hold hands." In the dark graveyard the gang sat in a circle holding hands as Nia took a silver chain out of her back pack. The chain was thin and glistened in the candle, on the end of it was a skull shaped pendent.
"Your aunt wore that?" Asked Austin.
"Shhh," Nia hissed at him. Nia held the necklace over the board and began moving it around in a small circle. "We are here to try on contact the other side." She said the the open air. Across from her Jordan laughed under her breath. "Please communicate with us through the board," Nia said, this time loud enough to cover up Jordan's laughter. Nia put the necklace down next to her and placed two fingers lightly on the eye. "If everyone could place two fingers on the eye." Then everyone else did as asked.
"Is someone there?" Nia asked and watched the eye with anticipation, but nothing happened. "Hello is anyone out there?" Nia repeated, and again the eye stayed still.
Nia looked up at the group with a baffled look on her face. "It must be because we don't have the incense," Jordan said sarcastically. "I'll go get them," Jordan said getting up and taking a candle to find her way to the car.
"Jordan," Nia called after her, but Jordan ignored and continued going to the car. Nia returned her attention to the board, "lets try again."
Nia, Isaac and Austin put two fingers on the eye of the board and moved it around in a small circle. "Is any one there?" After a short pause the eye glided over to the yes. Nia's face went white with shock. "What is your name?" This time the eye darted quickly around the board spitting letters every where.
"Marry," Austin read aloud.
"Marry is there any one with you?" Nia asked and the eye quickly moved to point to yes. "Who is with you?"
The eye darted around, as it moved Austin read the words it was spelling. "I can't say."
"Marry where are you?"
"In hell." Austin read. Sitting in a grave yard light bye 3 candles while talking to the ghost of Marry was starting to get to Austin, and the fear was easily visible on his face. Austin's eyes were wide and his face draining of color , the hand that wasn't on the board was at his side clenching a patch of dead grass. Nia had a different, more of an intrigued face. Her eye's were wide but her face was't pale. Her hands were shaking on the board and she was chewing her lip as she thought of other thing to ask.
"How did you die?"
The eye had picked up pace and it was hard for Austin to keep up with all the letters. "He... shot me," Austin read.
"Who shot you? Marry, who killed you?"
"It hurts." Austin read as the eye continue to spell the word hurts repeatedly.
"What hurts?" Nia asked
"Maybe this wasn't such a good idea." Isaac said, his face visibly pale, more pale than it usually.
"They are coming." Austin read from the board. Marry wasn't just answering questions any more, she was talking to them, telling them of what was happening in hell. The eye was moving so fast it was hard for them to keep their hands on it. "They are here. They have the gun. They are going to kill you."
Boom, rang out in the ear distance. Austin jumped getting his hands off of the board. Isaac stood up and looked around, after letting out a short scream. In the distance Isaac saw a firework shoot into the sky.
Nia threw her heard back and let out a laugh that Austin would only hear this one time, her truly happy laugh. Her mouth curved up into a large smile and she wrapped her arms around Austin. Between laughs she said, "I got you! Mr. I-don't-believe-in-ghost." Her laugh rang out in the air as she watched the fireworks continue to go off in the sky. "Best prank ever," Nia said slapping a big kiss on Austins cheek.
"Prank?" Austin asked with confusion as Isaac ran off into the dark to look for Jordan.
"You should have seen your face," Nia said still laughing. She looked up and Austins flushed face. "I'm sorry," Nia said.
Austin stood up and packed the board into Nia's bag. Isaac walked back to them holding Jordan's hand and Laughing. "That was good," He said to her as they walked to the car.
Nia blew out the candle's and walked to Austin. Standing on her tipy toes in order to reach his height she threw her arm over his shoulder. "It was funny and you know," she said with a half smile .
Austin looked down at her, seeing her face a smile grew on his, "yea it was." Austin laughed as he walked Nia back to the car.
