Chapter 4

Megan's POV

I was in the front of the van, with Paul, and the other boys were in the back, chatting and laughing with each other.

There wasn't any glass in between us and the boys, like there were in taxis, so me and Paul couldn't really talk without the boys overhearing. Our catch up would have to wait until we were back at the boy's hotel, or wherever they were staying.

It didn't take long in the van to get back to a very fancy hotel, complete with diamond door handles and crystal chandeliers.

We walked into the hotel, me carrying my bag, and stood by the reception desk while Liam sorted out a spare room key for me to have while we all stayed here. As it was Liam, I couldn't just stand and watch him, I had to distract myself, so I turned to Paul and said

"Are you sure that the boys should be staying here, I mean, won't they break everything?"

As soon as I finished, Louis, who had been leaning on the reception desk with one elbow, knocked off a glass vase of sunflowers, smashing the vase and making glass shatter everywhere. Paul and Liam looked at Louis with disappointment, while the other boys were all trying to keep in their laughs.

"Exactly my point!" I said to Paul, again, trying to distract myself from Liam's face.

He just pursed his lips and said "Lucky we won't be staying here for long"

After he had said that, his eyes travelled slightly upwards, so he was looking over the top of my head.

I slowly turned around and looked behind me, but only looked at the feet. Blue vans. That's what Liam was wearing today. I heard a voice in my ear, clearly Liam's, which was strained and sounded like he was in pain.

"Um, here is your key, lily"

I just nodded and kept my eyes on the ground, feeling the room key that Liam had got for me being pressed into my right hand. I closed my fist around it and turned away, desperate to not look at Liam's face, otherwise I would surely crack and break down into tears, which is not something I particularly want to do in front of  the person who I was meant to be protecting for the next year or so. If I cried, he may doubt my ability to protect him and I needed him to trust me completely if I was going to do this job well.

I looked up to Paul and said "Shall we go up to the room then?"

He nodded and we both walked about 2 metres to the lifts on the side of the reception desk and in the reflective metal doors I saw Liam standing exactly where I left him, eyes full of sadness and regret. My heart broke.

I was definitely stubborn for not forgiving him, but there was somewhere in my heart where he will always be, whether I want him to be there or not. I could not keep on ignoring him and hurting both of us in the process. I can't believe I didn't notice this before. I have to talk to him when we get upstairs.

*********************************

After an awkward ride upstairs, we arrived at the room and I was shown my bed by Harry. My assignment had to share a room with me, but he was completely understanding when I said that it would probably be best to spend most of our time in the rooms of the other guys and just come here to sleep.

Harry had already unpacked as he had been staying here for the past few days for concerts, so he just told me he was going to Louis' and Zayn's room and left me in the room alone. As he is my assignment, I should really follow him, but I needed to unpack and sort my things out. I'd only be a short while.

I put my bag down on the bed and started to unpack a couple of things. I only packed the essentials and I would probably take the boys shopping at one time or another so I could always get a couple of items of clothing then.

My packing mainly consisted of a few shirts and trousers, wash bag and weapons. That may seem violent, but my hobby is weapons and how could I protect someone without weapons?

After sorting some of my stuff out, I went to stand in front of the bathroom mirror and looked at the reflection staring back at me. God, I have to go and talk to Liam. I can't go on like this anymore.

I took in a deep breath and composed myself before walking out of the room and going to knock on the door of the room that Liam and Niall were sharing.
