It had been almost a week since he had moved in and we hadn't said a word to each other. I was focused on my classes. I was majoring in art so I took a variety of subjects. I took Visual Arts, Photography, and Art Theory. I also took Fictional Writing but I was as worried about that class. Our classes for each were so big that I hadn't been able to meet everyone.I was just about to leave for visual arts when I saw Farkle at the dining room table stuffing an art book, pencils, laptop, and a camera into his bag.
"I don't think it's all going to fit," I whisper loud enough for him to hear.
"Oh, no shit," he said as he turned around to face me.
"Nice camera though," I say peering at the bag he had just turned his back to.
"Thanks, but want a new lense for it but I would doubt you know about that sort of thing it care about it," he said.
"Your right I wouldn't," I said reaching into my bag getting my camera, "But I do like to mess around with photography."
"Nice camera," he mutters.
"It's okay. I too want a new set of lenses for my camera, but as a college student I am poor," I said.
Farkle laughs and turns back to his bag and try's to make it fit but I put my camera away and leave.I am walking to my first class of the day, photography. I decide to take the scenic route through the quad that is surrounded by the dorms rather than through the corridors. The quad has grass, well fake grass. It is full of couples eating each other's faces off, people who look like they haven't showered in weeks studying, and then people who are in a whole other world laying on the grass cloud gazing.
It is interesting to see everyone in the quad they all look like they fit into certain stereotypes but have there own stories that one couldn't even imagine.
Once I finish crossing the abnormally large quad I walk past the admin building and towards the art block. My favourite place on campus. That's saying something they have a Starbucks that is purely outdoors.
I push open the doors of the art block and immediately I am hit in the face by a display of artworks hangings and murals covering the walls of the hallway. I walk towards the staircase. Photography was the top floor meaning I had to walk up two flights of stairs. It was too early for this.
I managed to get up the stairs and into the photography room that only had a few people in it. Yes, I thought. I get to pick what every seat I want. Almost naturally I walked to the back of the room where no one was sitting.
In the next few minutes people starting piling in until Professor Wiseman started talking. She was a great photographer. When we started the course she had a slideshow of her work to show us to give us motivations and they were breathtaking.
"Okay so today I will be assigning you your first assignment. You will have to write and essay on what photography is and also you will be paired up with someone and you both will make a collection of photographs featuring each other," she said confidently, "Any questions."
A few hands shit up in the air, they were just questions like do you have to write the essay together which no you don't. They have to be seperate and some questions on due dates and so on.
"So I will be pairing you off with someone based on how you are on the class list which is alphabetical," Professor Wisemab began, "Okay I will begin pairing you up now,"
I don't listen until she got up to l.
"Savannah Lissu and Tyler Liu, Grant Made and Erin Mahto, Farkle Minkus and Riley Matthews."I didn't even know he was in this class now he is my partner. Fuck.
"Now that I have assigned you all," she said once she finished assigning, "Can you find your partner and collaborate ideas."
I put my things in my bag and try to find Farkle I see him sitting towards the middle of the room. I approach him and sit down annoyed at how close out last names are alphabetically.
"So you have any ideas," I said catching his attention.
"Oh, I mean I do but whether you will like them is a whole other story," he says quietly.
"Well, can I hear about them," I said.
He rips open his bag and grabs his visual art book and flips it open.
"I have this idea of taking pictures for the top of really tall building and having someone sitting on the ledge and the picture is taken from above and the person is in focus and the rest is blurred out," he says showing me a sketch of what he thinks it would look like.
"That is so cool," I said smiling.
"I mean I thought it was shit and I doubt you would want to sit on the ledge of a tall building," Farkle said.
"No, I mean sitting on the ledge would be scary as fuck but the picture you are in visioning is cool," I say looking down at his sketch.
"Oh thanks," he said.
"I have an idea as well. It is pretty much of the quad but it features a person who is wearing utterly full clothes and they are the focal but makes you think about how boring they are and how so much else is happening and how much individuality people have," I said nervously.
"Oh thanks way cool. For you at least," Farkle says.I go to rebut but I hear Professor Wiseman say "That is all for today class dismissed."
I get up and leave immediately. I was so comfortable with him until he fucked it up. Why was he such an asshole.
