Chloe woke up with a foot smashed against her face, courtesy of Maddie. With a grunt she pushed away the limb, with nothing but a yawn for a reply, before Maddie rolled over and returned to dream heaven. Last night after watching Mean Girls the pair of girls joked around and told stories of stupid things they did before they knew each other. In fact, Chloe was pulled far enough out of her depressive state that she had begun to forget any action she had performed that night- it was almost as if she loved life again. That was until she tried going to sleep on her hip- as much as she would have hated to admit that one cut burned, and brought her back to reality.
With a yawn, Chloe stretched (rather attractively I might add), and sat up. Next to her Maddie began to mumble something about it being early and Chloe having morning breath. Figures. Shooting a sideways glare, Chloe got up and dragged a toothbrush across her pearly whites, and pulled a comb through her tangled hair, courtesy of her pillow. Her hair wasn’t as bad as normal though, but that was probably because of the nightmares- which she gratefully didn’t have last night.
She grabbed a white downy towel from the hall closet, tossed it out the counter and switched on the shower faucet. The water quickly heated up, it was coming down in cascades, and steam began to fog up the mirror. Chloe embraced the water gratefully, but quickly recoiled when it hit the cut. It burned so immensely that she had to hold back a yelp, so she wouldn’t wake her friend. Chloe took a deep breath and ignored the pain, choosing to take a faster shower than she would have liked. Chloe exited the shower, and as she wrapped herself in the snowy white towel, Maddie burst through the door.
“I’m hunnnnnnnnnnnnngrrrrrrrrrrry. Chloe, feeeeeeed mee!” Maddie whined tugging me out of the bathroom.
“Hold your horses, let me get dressed for gosh’s sake lady!” Chloe griped.
“Fine, but hurry up.” Maddie moaned in singsong voice.
Chloe rolled her eyes and shoved Maddie out of the room so she could change. She also may have hoped that Maddie would start cooking so she wouldn’t have to. She grabbed the first pair of jeans she saw and a plain red t-shirt, dressing fairly quickly because Chloe wasn’t sure Maddie wasn’t going to barge in again.
Another unwelcomed yawn escaped Chloe’s lips as she pushed the door open and entered the kitchen. The sizzling of pancakes had already commenced, Chloe smiled at the thought of not having to cook after all. As she turned the corner she saw Zara already munching on pancakes and strawberries, and Maddie with an already clean plate.
“Thank you for joining us Chloe.” Her mother said from in front of the stove.
“Hey it’s not my fault Maddie is a pig when it comes to food!” Chloe whined and sat down to a helping of her own pancakes.
After quickly eating and a few more teasing remarks from her mom, and surprisingly silence from Zara, Chloe and Maddie left the house to go to the mall. The girls didn’t really do much more than float around different stores, making fun of the ugly clothing and fawning over what they could not afford before leaving with nothing more than a few lost hours of time.
“I should probably go home now...I need to see if my parents survived another major argument or not.” Maddie spoke softly, not really wanting to see if everything was all right at home. She really did prefer forgetting her problems alongside her best friend.
“Sure thing Maddie.” Chloe said as she started up the car driving toward Maddie’s house. The ride was virtually silent apart from the rushing of the air against the silver Honda civic and the humming of the engine. Maddie glumly sat up and flipped on the radio, and the girls were greeted with the sound of “Boyfriend” by the “pop artist” Justin Bieber.
“They still play this crap on the radio?” Chloe complained. “Switch the stations.”
“What? C’mon you know this song!” Maddie exclaimed flustered.
“Know doesn’t mean like Madday.” Chloe explained, rolling her eyes.
Maddie thrust out her lower lip in a pout. “You know I hate being called that!”
“But you know the name- so by your logic you must like it!” Chloe put emphasis on the word “your”.
“Fine, we’ll switch channels.” Maddie stated flatly.
After switching the channel about seven times they settled on a song they both hated- “Roar” by Katie Perry. They jokingly sang off tune- Maddie with a lovely alto and Chloe with what she thought was an off key tenor, but it was pleasing to hear even if it fell flat a few times. All too soon they arrived at Maddie’s house, and she grudgingly exited the car and walked up the pathway to the door.
“Tell me how it goes!” Chloe yelled over the music, glared at it then turned it off.
Maddie nodded appreciatively before entering the place of rage known as her house. Since Chloe couldn’t do anything further she drove home. She had nearly stopped by the office building again but she knew she had to be there from Maddie whenever her parents finally divorced; nobody doubted it wouldn’t happen but Maddie herself, whom tried to see the bright side.
After rolling into her driveway and entering her home, not forgetting to slam the door, Chloe scarfed down leftover mac and cheese Zara had eaten for lunch and crashed in her bedroom.
Being a supportive best friend while simultaneously trying to overcome the urge to end your life every waking moment was more work than Chloe had originally bargained for- which led her back to the idea of “why not just end it all right here?”

Sorry this chapter was more of a filler! I know- terrible to do only two chapters in. :/
However I feel like it portrays a bit more of who Chloe is as a person! And a little bit of her best friend of course.
Don't worry I do have things planned for Chloe- and I'm hoping I can pull one of them up in the next chapter or so!
So- does anyone think Chloe will commit suicide?
