Ever since I could remember, my parents have neglected me.
I did not earn their concern or love. My elder brother earned their attention as the heir while my younger sister was constantly in bed, embodied in sickness and fragility. Both of my parents loved them.
They would do anything for Nii-sama and Imouto.
But I was casted away, as if I didn't exist. I have already lost the feelings of yearning for parental love. It had disappeared with my childish and innocent feelings of wanting acceptance.
The fateful day came when my parents were holding a tea party. The Duke's son, Leontis Unsea, met my little sister and as I watched their fateful meeting, my parents had announced my engagement to him.
I could feel his disappointment when they had announced it. It radiated in his eyes yet he concealed them and nobly accepted.
Although I was a child, I was not blind. I could clearly see that they were in love.
No matter how many years passed, their love for one another grew as I was trained to be a perfect bride. I had shed no tears when I was bullied and neglected. So I never did cry when he visited my home under the pretense of visiting his fiance.
Since he did not want our engagement, I will wait for him to break it. Although that will take time. Therefore, I decided to spend my time strengthening my sister's body.
Everyday, I would help the chef with cooking digestible and healthy foods to improve her body strength and diet. I would carefully set it on a tray, bring it to her room and spoon feed her everyday. Then, I would take her for a walk outside the gardens for a bit of sunlight and exercise.
She had slowly gotten better and stronger as a result and after seven years, she was able to freely move by herself energetically with life.
I was happy for her. After all, I was still her sister. Yet, I think people would call me a fool for helping my sister reciprocate the feelings of my fiance.
In the seven years, I had been attending my elder brother's tutoring sessions. Unlike my parents, my elder brother loved me and would sometimes spoil me. He was kind and my only haven.
In the future, he would leave to attend the academy to grow into the heir of the Comenanci House.
In the end, he was going to leave me as well.
And then, that fateful day arrived.
That day had been deceptively beautiful. My fiance, Leontis, had come to greet me for the first time in seven years in my garden of roses. I had been sitting under the shade of an umbrella while reading a book.
He faced me with seriousness and sincerity as well as feelings of guilt for not being faithful to me. I knew what he was going to say.
"Elveva, our engagement will be anulled. I have found someone I love. I apologize for not being faithful to you," He had said while bowing.
For a few minutes, I didn't say anything. I only sat quietly to stare at him.
"Raise your head Leontis Unsea. It was to be expected." My voice echoed across the deathly quiet garden. I breathed. "I accept the anullment of our engagement."
The next day, I was facing my parents in Father's office, holding the engagement anullment notice. Before they could say anything, I spoke first.
"Father. Mother. I would like to discard my family name."
"I will no longer be your daughter." I closed my eyes and strongly said my final words.
"Thank you for providing a safe place for me to grow up." I elegantly bow and then turn around, heading out the door towards my room, leaving the silence behind me.
That day, I had quickly taken a bag of clothes and pocket money as well as necessities as I had walked out of the mansion. My new life had begun.
I was no longer Elveva Lucia Comenanci.
