I try to reword my feelings
Into phrases they can understand
Understand I am not a poet
Merely a puzzler
Connecting words
Trying to make them fit
Spin them around until something clicks
They don't always work
Sometimes there is a peace missing
So I reword
Rephrase
Rewrite
Scratch that idea
Try to go back in time
Undo redo
Copy and paste lines
Until I've forgotten the plot
Put down the pen and wait
Wait for inspiration to strike
It is more likely lightning will strike
the same place twice
But miracles, I am told, can happen
Miracles likes remembering a single word
A sentence I was meant to say
A year later but the ink is still damp on the page
Pick up my pen and write
Copy and paste
Undo redo
Scratch rewrite
Put the pen down
Maybe I've finally found the right combination
Of metaphors and simplistic words
To project my emotions out
Let the reader feel what I feel
I'll never know though
I shove each lettered page into a box
Store it away and only return to it on days when I need the reminder
I'm still figuring myself out
Learning to accept myself
And with every scribbled out phrase
I am understanding what they couldn't
Maybe feelings are like metaphors
Best decoded by the one who wrote it
Maybe similes are like broken hearts
Two things that were never meant to be
Forced together under one sentence
Maybe I am a poet
Laying in wait for just the right moment
Pick up the pen and write
