I awakened to the horrible screeching of the train coming to a stop. I glanced around and everyone began to hurriedly claim their luggage and rush of the train, seeming as if they had somewhere important to be. Me on the other hand, I took my time knowing I would have to face that disapproving face of my aunt as I stepped of this train. I lifted my head up off the window and squinted to see outside. The faraway sunrise began to glisten off the window. I saw the trees and a bit further away, skyscrapers were surrounding me. I actually contemplated hiding in a train cabinet until it departed for the next city or gathering my luggage and sprinting ,but, I thought to much and did not get the chance to pursue my plan. I was prepared until I heard a soft voice come up behind me. It was a frail old man, he looked like one you see sitting alone in a restaurant and all you want to do is go sit with him and keep him company for his meal, listening to his old stories of where he grew up and about his family. His face showed concern for me as he questioned, "ma'am, are you alright? We have reached the trains destination for the night and will no longer be traveling until Tommorow."
I gave a slight smile to the old man and said "yes I know I was just accepting the new surroundings"
"Ahh... what a beautiful surrounding this city is. It offers plenty to whoever comes to visit."
"Ya, I hope that's the same for me."
"I'm sure it will be"
And with that I forced myself out of my seat, gathered my bags, and took a deep breath before getting off the train.
Immediately behind me the train door shut and that was it. I could only move forward.
Skimming through the swarm of people I did not see one face that I recognized. My phone vibrated and sure enough it was my aunt Jane. She had run to the restroom and would meet me at the exit.
"Well great, what exit?" I mumbled to myself criticizing my aunts detail. I shuffled to the first exit I saw and waited. I observed those walking by. Everyone was different here. They all seemed to have a purpose and I just felt like a lost puppy. Five minutes later my aunt came prancing towards me. She had the biggest smile on her face and without saying a word squeezed me in the biggest hug.
" Madeline!!!! We are so happy to have you here! This summer is going to be a blast!"
With a slight laugh I smiled, "It's good to see you."
That's all I had to say. I was Confused of why she was so excited to see my after my mom explained all the trouble I was in. She seemed to still view me as the perfect five year old she knew me as from the last time I saw her. The thing is she didn't even seem to care the reason I was there. Without asking questions I followed my aunt through the train station listening to everything. She rambled on about her son, my uncle, and their new dog they just got. I dazed out of the conversation after about ten minutes and just followed still in a haze from my travel. We got in the car with her still rambling on and on and sure enough five minutes into the car ride she fired the question,
"So, how are you doing?"
How am I doing!?!!!? I have just been shipped off to someone I haven't seen in 11 years by my own parents who didn't want to deal with me! I have practically lost all my friends and now I have no one with them all by being across the country! But of course, you can never tell the truth so I spoke the lie..
"I'm fine"
