With Veronica gone, I now realized how much I had enjoyed her company on that long bus ride. Usually, with my background, I didn't make very many friends. And now I had made one, and she was gone. It was the loneliest feeling in the world. The house was still dark, as I was too busy getting the final instructions from Veronica to bother turning the lights. In a quick movement, I flipped the switch and the whole house was flooded with a warm glow. I begin to walk around the house giving myself a tour.

The kitchen was filled with stainless steal appliances. The fridge was about twice the size of my mom and I's back home. It smelled a lot better too. The counters were a smooth granite, with streaks of silver running through the dark surface. The dining room was connected to the kitchen. The table was small, like as if the program officers knew that I would probably be the only one eating at the table. It was filled with wood. Wood chairs, wood table, wood decorations on the wall. The whole eating area itself was quaint, and made me feel a little more comfortable in my new surroundings. No doubt it was intended to be that way. I continued on into the living room, which I got a quick glance of as Veronica said her goodbyes. The couch was a comfortable brown leather, and faced a moderately sized flat screen TV. I could see the remotes sitting next to the TV and made a vow to myself that as soon as I got myself settled in today I would record some of the television shows I had been dying to watch but never could. The coffee table was stocked with blankets, coasters, magazines, as the coffee table has storage underneath it.

Throughout the house, I continued to look at the bareness of the area. It needed some touches from me, as I had no idea how long I would be staying. The walls were bare except for a few decorations that came with the house. I peer around a corner and stare at a long hallway that was dark, I still hadn't turned on all of the lights yet. I turned them on and walked down it, assuming that the bedroom and bathroom were down the hall. The bathroom I found on my right. It was the perfect size for just one or two people using it, and it came stocked with towels, washcloths, and soap, all of which Veronica hadn't packed any of so I was grateful they were here. The room itself was a light blue color, and the shade of it reminded me of the beautiful blue skies that I only ever really saw in pictures. I see the bedroom next. The bed was way bigger than the one back home. I sat down on the comforter and rubbed my hand against the thick sheets and blankets. This was way nicer than the bed I had back home, I could definitely get used to this. I see a door slightly ajar next to the door I used to get into the bedroom. I get up and push it open and see that it's a large walk in closet. It has so many places to put my clothes that I don't even know what to do with all of the space. I really feel like I hit the motherload on this whole thing. If I was on the run from the mafia at least I could enjoy myself in style.

I look at the time and realize that it's almost five o' clock. I still need to buy groceries and put away my stuff. I look around for the drawer that Veronica said that the money would be in. In the drawer I find the money and a key to the house as well. I quickly shower, as I smell sweaty and gross from sitting on a bus for almost a week and not showering, and then go out into the garage for some way to get to the grocery store. I was expecting a car, but instead I only found a bike and bike lock to go with it. It had a note on it that gave me the combination for the lock. Sighing, I get on the bike and close the garage behind me.

The store was just a ten minute ride away from my new home. It was just a local grocery store, but it looked like it would have anything I would need for my stay. I lock my bike in the bike racks in front and grab a cart from one of the cart returns. I decide to start with the produce section. I pick out just about everything I wanted. Fruit salads, avocados, protein drinks, and lots of stuff to make salad. Then I go to the frozen foods area. I'm a teenager, I have to have some frozen pizza for dinner every once in awhile. I grab about ten different pizzas and then head for the bread and deserts area of the store. I grab just about everything that looks good. I get lots of bread and muffins, for my lunches at school. I don't really know if the whole gross cafeteria food myth is real or not, but I'm not taking any chances. I also get some doughnuts, cookies, and brownies. Ice cream also somehow jumped into my cart. I look out a window and see that the sun is starting to go down. I finish getting other essentials and pay at the register. I pay at the self register, to avoid meeting people who might turn me into the mafia.
