I met Riley on the first day of school. I was the new kid with no friends because we had just moved to California two weeks before. My locker was pretty close to hers and when she saw me just standing there being awkward because I bad nobody to talk to, she walked strait up to me and asked me my name. She just started talking to me like she had known me her whole life. And I was so grateful for her because back home, nobody was that nice to me. She had no idea how much she was helping me.
You see, my confidence was complete shit. My dad had abused me and my mom, and that's why we left. My mom finally decided that enough was enough. We pick up everything we had while he was at work one day and just left. I didn't know how long it would take for him to find us this time but I was going to make the best of what I had. This wasn't the first time we had to pack up like this, and when we did he always found us. So we moved from place to place, while my mom struggled to keep a job. Oh and they were divorced, I almost forgot that. My mom had custody of me until I turned 18 so he was really just stalking us. But my mom still kinda liked him, I mean him being her first love and high school sweetheart and all.
So when she started talking to me, it gave me a real boost on the first day.
"Do you want to sit with me at lunch, after all I can't let the new kids sit alone on the first day, it messes with my head and makes me all sad." She said in a really fast jumble. So of course I said yes, who was I to turn down a way to make new friends. She always knew how to help in an awkward situation, especially the ones that were because of me. I kind of made things awkward by talking. That's just how I was, quite and awkward.
Then the bell for first period rang and I jumped, startled by the sudden noise. I then made my first class, and found out that all of our classes would be together for the year. She told me that she would walk me to them because I probably looked pretty confused when our schedules were passed out. She was always there to help me, even when I didn't want it, like when she pissed me off the month before prom. But no matter what she was always there, and I could always depend on her.
