Chapter 2 ~ traveling friends

~Niall's POV~

I had reached Spalding three days ago and I've been staying in an abandoned house.

I don't know what the owners of the house did that they had to leave so quickly, but it's good for me. They left their furniture in the house.

I broke the lock by freezing it and kicking in the door. The house is one of the last houses of the village.

The town isn't that big and pretty cozy.

Maybe I can stay here. People don't know who I am here. Or rather, what I am.

I didn't even slip up once since I'm here. I didn't freeze anything. People are friendly. When I walk on the street they say hi. Something that never happened back home.

Home...

I guess it isn't really home anymore.

This has been a better home than Mullingar ever was.

My food, well, I have stolen that out of the containers near the supermarket. They chuck the expired food out every day, giving me more than enough choice on what to eat. And the food that they throw away isn't even rotten. Plus, I have a kitchen now, I can even warm up the food.

I swear, I think I will stay here.

Today is day four in Spalding. I woke up a few hours ago and I'm about to explore the rest of the town now. I'm planning on visiting the park. I didn't see it before.

I look out of the window from behind the curtain to see if no one is on the street. I can still get arrested for breaking into the house.

When I don't see anyone, I quickly walk out of the door and onto the street.

With my hands in my pockets, I walk, head down over the sidewalk. I have my hood over my head while I walk through the center of the town.

Some people are awake already and on their way to walk the dog, or do some shopping. They all smile at me when I pass them. They even wish me a good morning.

It's been so many years since I heard someone wishing me a good morning.

Happily, I reply back to everyone. I'm smiling wider than ever. I love it here.

This is it, I'm definitely staying here.

Right now I'm almost skipping towards the large gates from the park.

I can already see that this park is beautiful.

The leafs that fell in autumn are no longer there. The trees aren't placed in one line, but just as in a forest, random. The paths are cleaned of dirt.

I smile as I walk through the gates. I can't see anyone else here.

I walk through the trees, not getting off the paths. I'm enjoying the winter look nature has now. Nothing can break me out of my happy state now as I stand still at a small pond somewhere at the back of the park.

There are ducks and other birds everywhere. Some even have their little babies with them already.

I can't help but smile at that.

At least they have a caring family.

"Excuse me, can you tell me the way to Bourne?" A voice says from behind me and I gasp, clutching my heart with my glove-clad hands.

"You scared me." I say when I turn around.

I'm met by a boy around my age. His warm brown eyes are staring at me and a polite smile is covering his mouth. His eyes do look a bit weird though.
