Once again, I found myself stepping carefully down the damp stone steps to the cells. Will led the way with Avery right behind us.
"Hey Will," Luke greeted us as we approached him. "Nova, Avery."
"We were thinking that Avery could go in and talk to Angie?" Will said.
Luke nodded. "Sure, and I'm assuming you and Nova want to watch from the camera room?"
Will cracked a small smile.
"You know where it is. I'll take Avery to Angie's cell," he said waving his key card in the air.
He walked off with Avery on his heels as Will led the way to the camera room. It was a small room, no bigger than a doghouse. There were several computers positioned on a desk that took up most of the already cramped space. Will managed to close the door, sat down in the office chair, and began working to pull up the view of Angie's cell onto the big monitor. He got it up just as Avery entered the room and he clicked on the sound. I leaned down to look over his shoulder.
Angie sat in a small chair pulled up to a table with manacles on her wrists. She looked pale and even thinner than before. She had dark circles under her eyes. Avery had a seat in the chair across from her. I assumed it wasn't Angie's actual cell because it looked more like an interrogation room. Two guards, one of them being Luke, stood blocking the door.
"What do you want Avery?" Angie asked tiredly.
"We need to know where Brendan went," Avery said slowly.
"And what makes you think I know that?" she asked.
"I have a feeling you know," Avery replied. "You committed an act of treason, Angie, and the punishment for treason is death. If you tell us where Brendan went, I could help you get out of that punishment."
"I would rather die than allow you to kill him," she spat.
"I'm giving you one last chance, Angie. Where is Brendan?" Avery asked again.
Angie sat back in her chair without saying a word.
"Fine, have it your way," Avery said angrily getting up to leave.
"So what? Now they kill her?" I asked Will.
"It usually takes a few weeks to get everything confirmed by the board, but yeah, they're going to kill her," he replied.
"That seems a little extreme," I said.
He shrugged. "It may be, but she did betray us."
He stood up. We could barely move it was so cramped. He put his arms on my waist and leaned his lips down to mine. I wrapped my hands around his neck and reached up on my tiptoes to kiss him back. Being the klutz that I am, I lost my balance and fell towards him. He chuckled as we both fell into the swivel chair.
"Anyone could walk in here, you know," I mumbled running my hands through his hair.
He kissed my jawline and I shuddered beneath his touch.
"Would it be so bad if someone found out about us?" he asked.
"Of course not, but it's more fun sneaking around like this, don't you think?" I replied.
He smiled. "I'll do whatever you want to do."
I kissed him harder and our spark became a burning flame.
