Terre walked back to her dorm, excited that she had found the beautiful clearing.
"It's almost morning, so lights out will be soon." Whispered a voice behind Terre. Terre whipped around, expecting Viola. She was stuck with Charlie instead.
"Why are you telling me this?" Terre asked.
"Because, I wanted to see how it feels to be nice. So far, I like this feeling of goodness." Charlie replied with a simple shrug. Terre sighed and started to walk away, but a high pitched scream stopped her in her tracks. Terre swiveled around and ran towards the screams.
"What in the mother of hell was that?" Charlie called after Terre, but Terre had a bad feeling that something was happening with Lyla.
Terre ran up to her little clearing that she had discovered and saw a white wolf with a strip of silver standing over Lyla's bloody and unconscious body. Terre stifled a cry as the hunched, wolf turned around, sniffed the air around Terre, then walked away. It was as though he couldn't see.
"Terre?" Lyla moaned. Terre knelt by her friend and got a hazed look in her eyes.
"Terre, I... I was on my way to talk-to talk to you when... When.." Lyla breathed in raspy breaths and Terre shushed her.
"Save your breath, you need it for yourself." Terre almost cried. "Help! HELP!!" Terre screamed, trying to get her best friend to safety. "HELP! HELP! SOMEBODY HELP!" Terre was screaming. Charlie rushed over and helped Terre with Lyla. Viola ran up with a bunch of other kids and around half of them threw up after they saw the cuts and blood.
"Move aside." Ms. Avery said. She pushed through the cluster of students and when she saw the gory mess of Lyla, she fainted.
"It's dawn!" one of the students yelled. Students ran to their dorms in panic. Charlie helped Terre carefully lower Lyla to the soft, mossy ground in front of the forest.
"Ugghh..." Lyla moaned. Lyla was still breathing raspy breaths and blood was oozing out of her skull, arms, and side, not to mention the humongous bruises on her neck, face, and legs. A large chunk or her side had been mercilessly ripped out, with marks as though it were bitten.
"I NEED A DOCTOR HERE ASAP!!!!!!" Terre screamed at the top of her lungs.
"Please, go get Anna." Terre begged Charlie. Charlie nodded solemnly and ran off.
"Lyla. Stay with me. Don't close your eyes." Terre was almost crying. Charlie rushed back with Anna.
"What do you need-" Anna paused to hurl, "-me for?"
"Use your air element to push oxygen into her lungs. Please." Terre said as a tear rolled down her cheek. Anna nodded and then realized that the nearly dead person was Lyla.
"LYLA!" Anna cried out and tears flooded her face. "Air, please help my dearest friend Lyla to be able to breathe. Put oxygen into her lungs. Help her." Anna choked through stifled sobs, asking the air to help, and a strong wind blew into Lyla's mouth.
"I need you, Viola." Terre rasped, and waved Viola over. Viola understood.
"Earth, please comfort our best friend Lyla, help her to be comforted and help her to keep rooted to the Earth instead of to the Heavens." Viola quietly commanded the Earth. The moss that Lyla was lying on grew thicker and softer, the trees let out a beautiful smell, and the dirt grew less hardened and barren. Soon flowers were all over, the air was sweet-smelling, and the ground was soft as a blanket.
"Terre, you can do water and fire. Please do those." Viola asked. Terre nodded somberly.
"Water, wash away the dirt and blood that has fallen upon our dear friend Lyla. Wash away the sickness and death, and flow to her life and health." Terre commanded. Water flowed over Lyla, cleaning and stitching her cuts, clearing her lungs. Lyla breathed easier. "Fire, warm Lyla's soul, push away the coldness of death and let us keep Lyla until she decides." Terre breathed in sighs. A warmth flooded the air, clearly it was supposed to be freezing but to Vhampyrs there it was warm. The warmth flooded her body, bringing color to Lyla's deathly skin and pushing the cold air up towards the bright sun.
"Aaah!" a student hissed as the sun touched their eyes. Terre's eyes began to water because of the sun. Lyla breathed an easy breath. Terre had never felt so glad to know that humans - and Vhampyrs - needed to convert oxygen into carbon dioxide in order to survive. Lyla stood up and nearly toppled over, and Terre and Viola rushed to her aid.
"Get her to the infirmary." Mr. Harrison ordered, appearing out of nowhere. Terre decided to keep the blind creature incident to herself, not wanting anyone else to get hurt.
Lyla slowly opened her eyes and they began to water. "I-I-I... I saw-I saw..." she mumbled, and hissed quietly at the sun.
"C'mon, help me get her inside, into the infirmary." Terre struggled to hold Lyla's body in a cradle. Anna nodded, tears streaking down her face, and wove her hand. Instantly Lyla was lighter than a feather and all Terre had to do was follow where her instincts said the infirmary was.
"I saw it-Saw it... Saw the... The thing..." Lyla was mumbling.
"Shh. It's going to be okay. The thing can't get you anymore. I won't let it." Terre stroked Lyla's hair, comforting her. She meant those words entirely. internally, she vowed never to let anything-or anyone, for that matter-to harm her friends in any way. Then lyla slowly started putting more and mor weight into terre until she was out
