PROLOGUE

Vhampyr. What does it mean? It means a diseased person, someone with Vhampyrien. Vhampyrien is a deadly disease, and the only way to survive it is to drink blood. The Vhampyrs begin craving blood. If they don't drink any blood within every three months, they end up dying. One in ten thousand people are born with it, some unknowingly are injected with it as an experiment or as a punishment.

The first Vhampyr was a man named Leonardo De Namio, he was gifted with elements. Every other generation one vhampyr had an elemental ability. Soon, scientists genetically engineered the sickness to give all Vhampyrien diseased people elemental abilities. There's fire, water, air, and earth.

CHAPTER 1

Terre looked around her room making sure everything was packed.

"Ha-ha!" her younger sister, Juni, taunted, "You were Borne so I get your room!" Terre sighed.

"Juni, I might never come home." Juni shrugged and snatched one of Terre's Paramore poster.

"Haha,"Juni squealed "Victory is mine!" Terre chased after her sister. "Give it back, you monster!" she exclaimed. Finally she cornered Juni and took back her poster Then she headed back to her room. Everything was packed from her clothes to her paint splatter bedspread and extra combat boots. "Terre, time to go!" Terre's mom yelled.

"Ok mom one minute!" She walked into the bathroom and stared at her reflection in the mirror. She was gonna miss her green eyes. They would turn red in a few weeks, only to be seen in pictures. Terre adjusted her combat boots and leather jacket, then straightened her union jack tee and distressed skinny jeans. Finally she pulled her dark red hair back into a high ponytail and was ready to go.

"Terre! Hurry up!" her mom complained.

"Coming!" Terre yelled, running downstairs and out the door.

"Get in!"

"Alright, alright!" Terre piled into the grey minivan. She wouldn't miss her sister's annoying friends, or her sister's pranks. And Terre sure as hell wouldn't miss her stuck up, snooty stepmom and slimey dad. Suddenly, Zella poked her head out of her bag. She was in the form of a weasel with tiny ears and brown silky fur.

"Don't forget to call your father this weekend." Terre's mom was saying.

"I won't." Terre truthfully said.

"Terre, yes you will!"her mom exclaimed

"I will never EVER speak to that... that... that...." Terre trailed off, almost bursting into tears.

"That what, Terre?" her mom rudely asked."That ignorant, rude, spiteful, lying, cheating jerk!" Terre yelled, her face flushing furiously. Silence fell.

"Sweetie, I know this is going to make no sense, but give him a chance. Your father has worked so hard to make people forgive him. He's changed." Terre's mom said ten minutes later.

"His new wife hates me." Terre pointed out, "She is so mean, I can't believe it."

"She just wants to help."

"No she doesn't, she wants me gone!"

"Sweetie, you're over-reacting."her mother said losing patience

"She threatened to send me to military school at age twelve!" More silence. "Sweetie, I-" Terre's mom was cut off.

"We're here. Bye. I'll call you."

Terre slammed the car door angrily. Her mother tried to defend the man who cheated on her, his wife, and to make it worse the girl he cheated with was twenty years younger than him! A twenty-year-old woman and a nearly forty-year-old man. So gross. Her mom drove off. Terre looked around LAX For the correct terminal. After a few minutes of scanning the area, she spotted her flight and raced over to the security check. Finally after thirty minutes of standing in line waiting to get checked Terre was able to board the flight, carry on in hand. She slid into her seat and sighed. No one in her family was able to understand her, even her mother who had been her one constant through everything had grown distant these last few months. On top of all the family crap, she had been Borne,or in other words she was becoming a vhampyr. Most people who were Borne knew it was going to happen because usually it was a hereditary thing, but every once in a while no known family member has been Borne before and it comes as quite a shock. Since so many changes occur in the time period between fledgling hood and becoming an adult Vhampyr (many of them dangerous) It was safer for everyone if the fledglings weren't around normal people, so when a fledgling is Borne they have to go to the School for Vhampyrs(or SFV for short), and unfortunately SFV was in the middle of Alaska AKA barren and mostly uninhabite.
