Terre rushed into 3rd period and breathlessly sat down in her seat. She couldn’t believe she nearly missed the most important class of the day, Elemental placement. She thought as the teacher walked in. She had frizzy dark hair, blood red eyes, and peach skin. She was somewhat pretty but she was still sort of average ugly. Like a bittersweet pretty. You couldn’t help but stare.
“Oh I’m so nervous.” Said the girl next to Terre and when she turned she saw Jessica from this morning.
“Me too.” Replied Terre
“I hope I get fire.”Jessica added right before the teacher started speaking.
“Hello class my name is Mrs. Jhonson and I will be helping you with your elemental placement today.”she began “Now as you all learned today in Vhampyr history, being Borne gives you control over one of the four elements: Fire, Air, Water, or Earth. Today you will be finding your element.”
A murmur of excitement rang through the classroom but died out as soon as Mrs. Jhonson raised her hands for silence.
“Now inside your desk you will find four objects. A seed, a twig, a cup of water, and a toy windmill.”she said patiently
Everyone reached into their desk and pulled out the four objects. Terre pulled out her twig, cup of water, seed, and windmill, then looked curiously towards Mrs. Jhonson
“Now I want you all to close your eyes and clear your minds of all thought and emotion.” she said and the room went silent.
After a few minutes things began to happen. Next to her windmills began spinning even though there was no breeze, across the room water began to move, fires blazed on the twigs beautifully like dancing flames, and seeds began to grow into plant life. Terre could have watched this go on all day but as people began opening their eyes she didn’t want to be left out, so she closed her eyes and cleared her mind as instructed. In her mind she saw the four objects. The water was shaped like an orb silvery and glistening but did not lose its shape, the twig was on fire, creating a section of light, the windmill was was spinning as if pulled by some invisible force, and the seed had begun to transform into a sunset colored tulip-rose crossbreed with purple speckles.
When she opened her eyes everyone was staring at her, mouths gaping. For a moment she was confused until she looked down. There on her table were sat the four objects, except they were exactly like they had been in her vision.
Mrs. Jhonson stared at her in awe at the phenomenon that was Terre.
“What is your name?”she asked Terre, still somewhat awestruck
“Terre Alvarado.” She said nervously wondering what would happen next.
“Well, Terre Alvarado, it seems you can control all four elements.” she responded loudly as the lunch bell rang.
“It’s still hard to believe that you, Terre Alvarado, fledgling, can control all four elements.” Charlie said, appearing out of nowhere, “What, did you get some upperclassmen to help you out?”
“You’re wrong.” Terre said, walking casually to her lunch table.
“Oh, really? About what? About the fact that you are so not A-Clique material?”
“About everything.”
“I’m right about everything. Like the fact that you’re just some loser who thinks she knows it all.”
“You know nothing about my life!”
“Oh yeah? How about this: Mommy and Daddy are in love and rich, pretty little Terre thinks she’s all that because she’s a spoiled little brat.”
