“All I know is that girl gives me the creeps” Lulu said the following week during lunch when I asked how practice was going.

I hadn’t attended practice due to a project Mr. Barrow had assigned me. Besides, I still had to overlook the volleyball tryouts that where taking place.

“She’s freaking evil! “ Andy exclaimed. “Yesterday at practice she made sure I heard her ask Jessica if she had ever thought of having the co-captain position.”

“First she makes it obvious she wants captain and now she wants Jessica as co-captain.” Gaby pitched in while taking a bite of her sandwich. “I don’t like her at all!”

“I don’t think anyone likes her Gabs” Jennifer exclaimed.

“Let’s change the topic girls; this talk about Emily is ruining my appetite.” Andy said.

“Well Andy why don’t you explain the looks that Jason keeps sending you!” Gabby said teasingly.

“Or the notes you two keep passing during 3rd period?” Jennifer joined.

“Or maybe explain why I saw you two leaving school tomorrow after practice yesterday?” Lulu asked curiously.

“Or why don’t we talk about Mathew!” Andy said desperately naming the other new kid.

It worked because all the girls began talking about how they wished he could become their date to the upcoming Winter Formal.

I mouthed ‘Good save’ to Andy and then turned to listen to the girls’ dreams about landing a date with Mathew. While the girls daydreamed about Mathew I thought about some more important issues I was having. Dad had been extremely busy nowadays. Didn’t even have time to talk, I was worried about him. It seemed like work wasn’t going that great, he had come home yesterday worried as hell and went directly to his room to continue his work.

Then there was my mother, she had begun to turn extremely over-protective of me. Making me come home before 9 and always making me want to check in. It was like Dad’s frustrations where frustrating Mom and she was taking it out on me. So unfair.

“So? Winter Formal?”

“Huh?” I said, snapping back into reality.

“Michael? Has he asked you?” Andy asked.

“Oh no, we were actually talking about it yesterday.” I said annoyed at the memory. “Apparently he’s going to be leaving a week earlier to Paris with his parents.”

“What! Are you kidding me?” Andy exclaimed “Who are you going to go with!?”

“By myself I guess? I have two weeks to worry about it anyways.” I replied.

“True, you’re still going dress shopping with us on Friday though right?!” She demanded.

“Yes, Andy!” I laughed.

And then we continued talking about things girls talk about before a big dance. What kind of dress they wanted, followed by what shoes would be worn and finally who we would like to go with. And so we went on until the bell rang and then it was off to 5th period. Fifth I had English with Lulu. Unfortunately the teacher knew better than to let us sit next to each other let alone work together so it was like we were alone in that class.

Once sitting in class I put my head down, trying to rest my eyes for a few minutes. Sadly Mr. Basel wasn’t fond of people sleeping in class and the moment he saw me he came over and tapped my shoulder. I sighed and raised my head, preparing myself for a long lecture on stupid stuff I would never need in my life.
